tamoxifen

Hi

Just a query really as I have my plannig session on monday, but from reading threads here, does everyone who has radio get put on tamoxifen, coz it has never been mentioned in my treatment plan, so I am just curious, perhaps someone can give me information on this. Thanks

Heather

Hi there. I’m having rads and Tamoxifen, but I think you can only have Tamoxifen if you are ER positive, because it responds to hormonal treatment. Maybe someone who is a bit more clued up than me can give you some more information.

Hope I’ve helped, if only a little bit!

Hi Lyn

Have not been told anything other than I have dcis, and it was very close to chest wall which is why I had to have mast, and that the rads were just an insurance in case he missed anything, although he was pretty sure that he had got it all, and there was no lymph involvment, so per haps thats why tamoxifen has not been mentioned, I shall ask for more information at my rads planning on monday.

Thanks

Heather

Hi there Heather,

Lynn is correct. You will be prescribed tamoxifen if you are ER + which means oestrogen positive.

Breast cancer can be positive or negative for oestrogen, progesterone or her2 (human epidermal growth factor receptor 2). Ask your doc which you are. It may be that you are triple negative for all the above,

I hope that helps. I’m off for a cuppa tea now.

All the best,
Txx

Hi Heather
I’ve been put on Tamoxifen but still haven’t been told whether positive or negative for oestrogen - it evidently doesn’t hurt to begin taking it if you don’t need it (!*?!) I’m waiting for pathology report and appointment for radiotherapy and the surgeon thinks it’s better to be safe than sorry!.
