Hi There Mommaferg
I have been taking Tamoxofen since last April, I have found the progressive stiffness in my body has been getting worse and worse, sometimes at night I can hardly move for the pain and stiffness, seems especially to affect the knee joints, Have been hoping because it is Winter and cold maybe this will lessen when the weather warms up a bit. Have been swimming half a mile front crawl to try to alleviate symptoms, but honestly doesn’t seem to help and I stand up all day in my job, sometimes I can hardly walk, then seize when I sit down. Also have a problem with my neck, have had MRI, nothing to do with the Cancer they have said, So is it the Tamoxofen???
Sorry if this is no help to you, just wanted to let you know your not alone with this problem, I have an appointment with my G.P today as at end of tether with feeling so stiff, Probably a ‘waste of time’ but getting desperate. Will keep you posted.
Hi
For me I have suffered terrible knee and leg pain with stiff neck since after chemo and codeine is the only pain med that helps. I finished chemo in December and the pains continued right through 3 weeks of radiotherapy. I started tamoxifen two days ago and the only difference is that the codeine seems less effective at night or at least takes longer to work.
Hi,
You could try a different brand of Tamoxifen. I know a lot of people have posted about more severe side effects depending on the brand.
For me i had been fine taking the Teva brand but due to supply problems a couple of months ago my chemist gave me the wockhardt brand and i had joint pain in my elbows. Now back on Teva and no pain.
Might be worth trying a different brand to see if it helps.

Hi I’ve been on tamoxifen since last September the flushes and night sweats are horrendous I did try acupuncture but it caused anxiety so I’ve stopped this now. My breast care nurse told me to take vitamin e which I’ve been taking since Xmas I don’t get any joint pains the only problem I have is a bit of neck pain. I do carry a battery fan around with me which really does help with the flushes. If anyone has any suggestions to relief the flushes it would be most welcome.
Hi Askey
i’m sure you’ll get a few responses re tips for Tamoxifen, and there’s a good BCC booklet. I just wanted to say a few things yet have helped me over the past 18 months are the vitamin E, cutting out coffee and alcohol almost completely (sorry!), and wearing thin layers. I haven’t found different brands make a lot of difference but I know other people do. I hope your symptoms settle down - mine haven’t gone away but feel a lot more manageable now that the night sweats are less frequent and I can get an ok night’s sleep. Some ladies on here have found a low dose anti- depressant is a real help.
With very best wishes
Jude
Hi there i’m new to the site also. The informationon on Tamoxifen has been very useful and glad to hear i’m not alone. I finished my chemo in december and a week later took the flu which I struggled to shift as immune system was probably low. I started experiencing joint pain around this time which is when I started the Tamoxifen too. The joint pain has never left and at first I thought it was the flu but realise now it must be the Tamoxifen. Top of arms and legs are the worst but I will go to the docs now and mention the various options that have been mentioned above. Thanks girls!
I have been on Tamoxifen for 12 months, and yes I do have joint pain, mosty in my right hip, both ankle joints, carpul tunnel syndrome which apparently is a side effect of the drug. I have night sweats which were severe but was advised by my consultant to take evening primrose which I have taken for the past month and the symptons have eased I also have started taking omega 3 tablets which are helping the joint pain. Hope this helps JayD xx
