I’m on Taxol with Herceptin and I get very bad pain in bottom of abdomen for a few hours prior to the 24 hours of Tax Trots which come out of me as burning as the fires of hell. GP says that it’s ‘normal’.

If you’re concerned, ask your BCN or GP.

Hi Ninja,

Im going to be starting Tax with Herceptin on the 22nd July. I haven’t read about many ladies having the Tax with Herceptin. How have you found it? Mine is to shrink the lump and hopefully have a lumpectomey.
Have started to make a list of things I need to buy before I start to try and help the SE’S. Is there anything you can buy to stop the Tax trots? or is it just part of the course! Have you still got nails? I sometimes think I’ll never cope and am dreading starting!

Thanks Lyn x

Hi Lyn,
Do you fly helicopters? The Westland nick…

Anyway.

I was on EC for 6 rounds, but it got changed to 8 rounds, then when I was found to be HER+ I moved to Taxol / Herceptin after 3 rounds as HER can’t be given safely with EC. Best thing they did. It’s a breeze compared to EC, honestly. No more 9 days of nausea followed by severe debilitation requiring inpatient stays.

I just took Immodium when the nether regions felt so burnt (after several hours of Fire Trots) that I could not sit down without almost crying. Vaseline not helping and I couldn’t tolerate any other creams near it. Immodium sorted it.

Nails were already dried out after the 3 EC and they are deteriorating rapidly. Stopped nail varnish a week before Tax and have been nourishing them. One toenail already looking dodgy; seems to be detaching at base and tip. I have lost loads of toenails in the past (winter mountaineering) and if they come off gradually, it doesn’t hurt as the nail bed hardens underneath in preparation. Just keep trimming from the top and stick a plaster over if it starts hanging before it’s grown out.

The pre-meds will give you one day of constipation; I suggest using Medjool dates, nuts, bran and if necessary, emergency Senokot, for the constipation; the hospital’s Movicol made me heave but it may suit you. What you don’t want is a strained botty just prior to the Tax Fire Trots - you need all membranes intacto for that one!

The Tax Truck will hit you at some point and it is supposed to be cumulative. I’m on weekly Tax and I had Truck for 3 days and Trots for one day so 3 days (almost 50%) of being tired but in high spirits. For me, that’s a better %age than when on EC.

Tax also steals your neutrophils - the first sign of this may be if your mouth lining becomes one big mass of ulcers - tell your Chemo unit and get help.

Good luck!

Hey Laura. Look up the new thread which I will bump up titled " Abdominal cramping. Sounds similar to me and I have posted on it regarding suitable medication which may help you too. Hugs, Val
