Taxol/Gemcatibine?

Hi everyone, I know its a while since anyone has posted on this thread but i thought i would give it a try. I am starting on Taxol tomorrow for probably 6 months, i think after 6 weeks they will give me a ct scan to see what is happening (i have small tumour on liver) which did not respond to Xeloda. I was only on it for 6 weeks but on a trial so that was the reason for the quick scan (after the 6 weeks). Anyway will start on taxol tomorrow. I have had AC and Taxatere about six years ago, but now I am so scared that Taxol will not work for me although Taxetere (probably spelt wrong!) did and I was in remission for about 6 years so only had bone mets in this time. I had bone mets 6 years ago which is why they gave me Taxetere… I know i am going on now but hope you understand what i mean. I dont know if any of you have been through this situation and how you all are now - but what happens if taxol doesnot work what other options are there i am her- er+. Sorry i know everyone has got loads of problems. I have been really positive up to now, but feel like I am sinking a bit. Been out yesterday got some new wigs just in case… probably going to have a portacath put in cos crappy veins. Also how do you feel on Taxol - i usually go to Spain throughout the summer but have cancelled all flights, but thinking whether I will be able to go or perhaps too tired … I am not sure what did you feel like. Thank you sorry to go on.

Hi Debs
I am on taxol and find it so tiring 3 weeks on 1 off. At first tried to get about on week off but find it more difficult now. My dad lives in Spain but have not been able to travel this year maybe later. Mind you don’t let me put you off check out the taxol thread others are still working, so think I am a taxol wimp.
I have had good shrinkage with it so hope you do too.

Hi DebsH and Debsincornwall,
Just to say that I did manage to work part-time during 9 months of taxol last year but only up to about 8 hours a week (in short bursts spread through the week)in term-times. I found the 3rd-5th days after treatment my worst with bad flu-like symptoms, shaky joints and huge tiredness but they tended to be over the weekends.I tended to feel so much better during my week off (had 3 weeks on 1 week off like Debsincornwall)and from Sep-Dec last year did go somewhere for the weekend towards the end of my week off but purely out of need as my husband had walked out. It did me a lot of good to get away - I just stayed in the UK but had weekends in London and Glasgow and was able to be quite busy and fine but was really shattered when I got home mind you and also I picked up a nasty sickness bug on the way back from Glasgow somehow but for me I think I would have cracked up if I couldn’t have got away as I’m on my own and also have the treatment from home so it has those associations too.
We’re all different and I think it’s important to listen to your body and do what’s right for you. With me the taxol definitely had an accumulative effect as it built up in my system. I was able to play badminton every week the day after chemo but that was while I was still high on the steroids which do mask things a lot.
Apart from a chest infection after week 8 and a sickness bug months later I was pretty ok on the treatment and it’s clearly worked well for me.
I hope it goes ok for you.
Take care,
Anne
