This is my first post. I’ve had 3 rounds of EC chemo and 1 of taxotere and herceptin. I’ve had all the bone pain and muscles seizing up in neck, shoulders and back, but the most frightening for me is the bleeding. I was admitted with a temperature last week and when the canula was removed, it wouldn’t stop bleeding. Then yesterday I had the second nosebleed in 2 days, but this one took 2 hours to stop. Blood tests done (that hole wouldn’t stop bleeding either!) and platelets etc OK, so I went home. Now I’m terrified that every drip coming out of my nose is going to be another start of red ones. Anyone else had this?
I am almost at the end of my treatment now - 2 more Herceptin to go. I had 4 rounds of AC chemo and 4 rounds of Paclitaxol which I think is very similar to Taxotere.
When I was on Paclitaxol I also had bone pain and seizing muscles and unfortunately nothing really helped so just had to grin and bear it.
I also suffered from nosebleeds although they never lasted very long. They were quite spectacular though, very red! My onc was never that concerned about them, I had my bloods checked regularly and they were always within usual range for chemo. She did say part of the problem with nosebleeds and running noses is that it is partly due to having no nose hair - yes you lose that as well as all your other hair.
I know that not much of a solution for you, but maybe it will put your mind at rest that it is normal, so to speak.

Hi!
I am also on taxotere, herceptin and pamidronate. Started herceptin and taxotere 23rd December but have been on pamidronate for a year as I have secondaries.
On 27 December I had a shocking nose bleed following a rather bad headache and earache which resulted in OH phoning emergency helpline at the hospital. When the doctor phoned back he said that it can happen due to pressure build up and releases itself through a nose bleed. Apparently it does happen with taxotere and the platelets and fortunately mine only happened the once although I dread it happening again after my next treatment on Friday, but at least I will be prepared for it this time.
As Sam said, no solution but normal! These side effects are certainly very trying, to say the least!

Hi nannieSpiky
I’ve been on taxotere and have nosebleeds daily along with bleeding gums and when I go to the loo! It’s become part and parcel of everyday life for me and am told its down to the chemo. I was also on Avastin which affects circulation too. I have a constantly crusty bloody nose!
Like you say at least you are prepared for next time.
Good luck and bes wishes

Well, it’s comforting to know it’s not just me! The nurses advised me to steer clear of strong smells - so no more cleaning the bathroom for me for a while! However, OH is cooking curry tonight, so I’m hoping for no problems. Haven’t yet had another bleed so I feel lucky compared to some of you but my nose does feel very raw so I must wait and see. Oh the joys of chemo …
