taxotere side effects
taxotere side effects i have just had my 1st taxotere following my recurrence and mastectomy. i have not felt sick but very washed out and my body seems to be painful all over, especially my legs and arms. is this normal. it is very worrying. i have also had diarohea for 24 hours but that seems to have passed now, the info leaflets dont give out much info. maybe someone can advise me
Taxotere Hi
I have had 2 Taxotere so far and have suffered from aches and pains over my body, had no diarohea, but remember my onc. saying i may have some.
I posted a thread on Taxotere symptons a while a go,it was in the undergoing treatment section.i will find it and bring it to the top for you,i had quite a lot of replys.
Hope this will help you…Taxotere is a very tough chemo, but worth it if it does the job.
Best wishes

Me too Hi Grandma
I have just finished 6 x Taxotere, I too suffered with the aches and pains, its very common with this chemo regime. I also had the 24hr stomach upset too so dont worry about that, only worry if it continues as you’ll need to make sure you dont get dehydrated or havent picked up a bug in which you’ll need to contact your chemo unit for advice…
Try and drink plenty of fluids, i found this helped and take painkillers before the aches and pains set in as once they take hold, they can be quite bad and last for days…
Its a tough chemo, i found it much harder than the epi cmf that i had first time round but like Julie says… worth it if it does the job!
Good luck with your treatment…

thanks for advice, how long do these pains last for, cant take codeine so will try ibuprofen. trying to plan things out as hope to return p/t beg feb with taking chemo day + 2 days off. when i was off last year with lumpectomy and chemo etc i took 6 months off and found it hard to get back into work, so this time i want to go back sooner if i can.
hair i have also been told that i will definitely lose my hair with taxatere, how soon
my experience Hi Grandma
I can only tell you of my experience, as you know everyone is different, have to say, i did suffer quite bad with this chemo, it wiped my immune system out twice which resulted in 2 x hospital stays and a blood transfusion, however, i know of others that have tolerated it better, so you may well just have to see how you are…
With regards to work… i dont know what you do as a job so it may depends of how much at risk you are of picking up infections from others… i.e children etc, i found this chemo very tiring and the fatigue was unreal, i would feel ok the day i had the infusion, then the aches and pains would start to creep in on around day 3 - 4 and last 3 - 4 days and then the tiredness would set in where i would feel weak and quite breathless - this was when my bloods would take a nose dive.
I was also told i’d lose my hair with this chemo, however its just thinned quite a lot, i’d say ive lost about 65% of my hair and its thinned quite evenly and not fallen out in clumps like it did with the epirubicin. It hasnt started to grow back as yet, i was told it would take 12 weeks after treatment has ended for this…
Has anyone warned you about the effect it has on your nails?? I dont think i was quite prepared for the effect its had on mine. I’m about to lose 5 fingernails and some of my toenails have gone black too, i dont relish the thought of this at all! hope you are one of the lucky ones with this side effect.
Good luck with the treatment, hope its kind to you…

forgot to say… My hair started to fall out around 3 weeks after the first one, then it just fell out in smaller quantities after each one.

All my hair fell out after the 2nd taxotere…fingernails went dark…not as black as with the FEC but they grew long…never looked so healthy (apart from the colour)…Pain was less but generally bones felt like i had been kicked by a horse. I was given injections to take day 7-11 as they knew my immune wasnt up to it (from the FEC) earlier. Fatigue peaks after 4 leaving complete exhaustion…a make the bed and lie on it job…I couldn’t work if i wanted to…(except from home)
It got better…only had 4 then they stopped it.
hairloss i am on day 14 of first taxotere and hair is now falling out in clumps. everywhere i go there is a trail, my clothes are smothered and the bed looks like a furry cover. think its time to do the shave off bit - last time i did that - but this time i held off as people said it may only get thin in patches. but i think it is past that, eyebrows, eyelashes and pubics too. also today when the nurse came to change my dressing from my infected mast wound, she discovered a spot under my arm on the old lymph scar line and as she touched it spurted puss, so up gp i went and he said it may be an infected follicle from a hair, put me on antibiotics and took my temp, which luckily was normal. i was told to keep an eye on temp and if it goes higher to go to a/e as it is classed as an infection and at the wrong time of chemo. do not want to be doing that on a friday night so rang chemo dept and they said just keep an eye and as i was having b/t thurs for chemo friday it should be fine and it is probably only a localised infection. as you can imagine i panicked, have managed to not pick up my hubbys flu and chest infection and i get done in by a spot!!! what luck
