TC and Herceptin

Hi everyone

I just had my first session of TC & H on Wednesday and wondered if there is anyone else on a similar treatment at the same time that I can compare notes with?? I’m day 4 today and got bone aches, muscle soreness, headache and terrible indigestion - no sickness though so I count myself lucky! Anyone know about hair loss on this regime?

Hi Ruby

I am on TC regime but they are not giving me the Herceptin until after chemo, I do know of one other lady that has had both together, but that was just on the first session.
The bone aches, muscle soreness are very common SE as is the indigestion, I have not had sickness either, just a little nauseous now and again. My hair started to come out on day 15 after first session so I had head shaved, but I am now day 6 after 2nd chemo and still have the shaved look!! no doubt it will all go soon though.

Hope this helps.

What is your diagnosis? mine is IDC Grade 3 HER2 +, ER-, I am 46. just wondered if TC is mainly given to those that are HER2 +

Hi Wendy,

my diagnosis is IDC grade 2 ER and PR positive, HER2 +. I think you’re right, the TC was suggested after I came back as Herceptin positive before that I was just looking at radiotherapy and hormone treatment. Did you try the cold cap or not? Were your side effects better or worse after your second chemo session? How are u feeling now?

Thanks for replying, appreciate it.

Hi

I was diagnosed DCI, HER2+ and 2 lymph nodes were positive too. had mastectomy with full axillary clearance on 4 July.  I’m on Herceptin (injection) Carboplatin and Docetaxel Chemos.  Originally I was due to have FEC-T treatment til they discovered the HER2+ after the operation.  They told me the Herceptin is therefore more suitable in preventing a return in the future. My hair started falling out 15 days after 1st chemo so I too decided to shave it off - my way of beating cancer to taking it all!  It has started to grow back but think as its been 9 days since 2nd cycle of chemo, then it will fall out again.  I’m to have 6 cycles of chemo in total, but following that, 6 months of 3 weekly Herceptin injections.  After just 2 sessions, I’m dreading the next.  I’m really struggling with taste - eating and drinking has been awful due to the metallic taste in my

mouth and the mouthwash the hospital prescribed doesnt really touch it.  Anyone else come across this problem and if so, how did you overcome it?

Thanks, Debbie

Hi Debbie

I started with salt water mouthwash which helped a little, then Corsydol mouth wash as it was a little worse 2nd cycle, didn’t think this helped. This time (3rd cycle today) I have been recommended Diflac (I’ll check that it could be spelt wrong) so I’ll let you know how I get on with that.

In my opinion the Herceptin is no trouble, compared to the chemo, so don’t fret too much about that.

The nurse told me today that hair loss slows after the third cycle so hopefully if yours is already starting to grow back, you may quickly have a thick head of hair again. I’ve been using the cold cap and although I’ve thinned a lot, I still have no patches.

Ok I’m off to bed for probably a broken nights sleep - oh yes sorry there is one side effect of Herceptin - hot flushes at night.

You won’t be dreading cycle 3 when you get there because you will start to feel better in a few days and strong enough to get through it again!!!

One cycle at a time ?

Love Ruby

It’s Difflam!!

Hi girls, I had a lumpectomy in july.  I had a grad 2 tumour with no lymph node involvement and clear margins.  I am in the SOLD trial and in the short arm of it which means that I got my first dose of docetaxel and herceptin on 29.8.14.  I get this for the first 3 sessions and then chemo only for the last 3.The indigestion is awful but with 60mg of omeprazole and gallons of gaviscon its doable!!  I also had myalgia caused by the herceptin but that passed in 36 hours.  You don’t feel great but now I’m at day 9 things are a lot better.  waiting for hair to come out now…deep joy!
