My husband works for the Met police and is working tonight in Lewisham of all areas. I have the news on and its like a war zone. Rioting etc. Really did not need this extra worry, and very scared he gets caught up in whats going on. ![]()
No words I say can make you worry less about your husband, however I do hope he is home with you safe very soon. Please try to take some comfort from the training and professionalism of the police and your husband as that professional. Take lots of care, J.
Hi Stargazerlily,
I’m so sorry to hear how worried you are i wish there was something i could say to help. I’m thinking of you and hoping you get the opportunity to speak later and put your mind at rest. Sending you a big cuddle.

Hi Stargazerlily,
As if you haven’t got enough on your plate at the moment???!!! My thoughts are with you. I hope your hubby will be home again with you soon!

(I originally posted this before you posted your second post. I’m not cracking up or am I??? I’m beginning to wonder!)
I sincerely hope everything is OK. I lived on the edge of E London for 20 years and remember the terrible Broadwater Farm riots of 1985. At the time my OH worked for a company that was based not far from there and I often used to worry as there were so many muggings and robberies even back then. I used to think it was pretty ironic that they often filmed The Bill across the road from his firm’s premises.
OH’s family are in Barking, but we also have friends around places like Stratford, Walthamstow, Enfield (all of which are now affected by this) and my best friend lives in Southwark. He is 70 now and has told me Southwark has become very intimidating. Sadly, he was followed from the West End to the South Bank one night, then mugged on his doorstep.
I really hate all the stick the police are getting down there at the moment, they are policing in some very difficult and lawless parts of the capital. All credit to your husband for doing a job that keeps the rest of us safe.
Times like this we could do with a REALLY heavy thunderstorm so the thieving scumbags just go home.
I hope he’s fine, and he and his colleagues will be looking out for each other through this. They have the support of the vast majority of the population, just a shame the small minority don’t have a bit more respect for other people’s lives and livelihoods. And it has NOTHING to do with the bloke who got shot last week, that’s just the media’s take on it. Grrr, it makes me really cross!
SGL, thinking of you, you really don’t need this at the moment.
Just remember how professional he is, and his colleagues.
Try not to watch it wall to wall on TV, perhaps a DVD and ration your news fixes?
I posted something earlier but the website seems a bit funny tonight, as Annie said

thinking of you and your OH tonight… and all those affected
sending you hugs SGL and prayers for your hubby and all involved …this is madness what the hell is going on in this world !!!
SGL so sorry that you have this to contend with as well. I hope hubby remains safe and well. These thugs are just after a free shop any excuse to get something for nothing. Big hug Chris
SGL - sending positive thought for your husband’s safe return tomorrow morning. You really do not need this, take some Rescue Remedy and try to watch anything but the news (easier said than done I know). Hugs and more hugs. Marli
Wood green has been completely closed since 7pm. we were having a quiet drink in Crouch and and told the pub was closing early because of warnings about riot in our area–unbelievable. As we passed other pubs they had already closed. There are police vans and cars screaching up and down the road
What can we say to make you feel better?? Not much. I suppose not all police are assigned to the front line. I hope his duty is on a quieter area. It does seem that the police chiefs attituede is that it is more important to protect the officers than it is to protect property and they are policemen not soldiers.
I am old school. I think riots are civil unrest that should have the army called in.
Hubby is in a police station stuck in the middle of it all. He could only get so far, as there were police cordons everywhere. He can hear it all going on outside, just hope the police station doesnt catch fire
I wont be going to bed tonight, certainly would not sleep.
Thank you for your kind words and support ladies xx
Thinking of you Stargazerlily.
