terrified!

Hi, I’m 21 and I gave birth 7 weeks ago and have never breastfed, tho i seem to still be making milk- and this morning i woke up to see a little spot of dried blood on the tip of my right nipple. I sqoze the nipple to see what was going on and milk came from most of the ducts but the middle duct had blood coming from it, bright red blood and it didnt seem to be mixed with any milk, just blood.

The nipple itself is fine, no scab or cut, not painful, or red it all looks very much as usual and feels very much as usual, no loss of sensation, and upon feeling i cannot find a lump (though I have very large tubular breasts so hard to find a lumop even if there was one).

I recently had a contraceptive implant (Implanon) put into my arm, not usre if this can cause bleeding of the nipples though i doubt it.

My breast doesnt hurt at all, no pain to the touch or anything like that.

There is no family history of breast cancer, or any cancer for that matter.

With it been a Saturday I have only been able to visit the On Call doctor who was terrible, he didnt speak English so couldnt undertsand when I said I had never breastfed and he didnt even examine my breast! Not even a look to see if he could see anything, just ruled out infection as I told him my nipple wasnt red. Ruled out cancer simply cause there is no family history and told me i had a ruptured milk duct…I have never breastfed so this isnt possible, also I would be in agony.,

I have been stupid and been reading websites and everything points ot cancer :frowning: Everything which isnt too serious all cause pain, and i have none. I’;m terrified, Im only 21 and have a very young daughter to care for :frowning: I don’t want to leave her and not watch her grow up and this is all that keeps goinf through my mind.

The people on here will know better than anyone how i feel, and hopefully someone will ahve some answers…

does this sound like breast cancer or milk duct cancer?

Hi worriedmummy,

We all know what it’s like to be so worried because we’ve all been there but don’t forget that 99% of breast problems are benign. We ladies on here who have cancer are a very small portion of the general population. You gave birth 7 weeks ago so your body has just been through a massive upheaval and strange goings on wouldn’t be too unexpected. Are there any other new mothers you can chat to? Maybe some of them will have a similar experience. Or what about your District Nurse?

Whatever the problem is will need to be checked out properly so do see your own GP on Monday. I know the temptation is huge once the idea has entered your head but try not to read too many cancer stories. I can tell you from experience they won’t help.

I do hope it turns out to be nothing serious.

Hi
DON’T PANIC i know that is easier said then done but try to keep calm. On Monday phone your health visitor or your own GP. Make an appointment meanwhile continue to breast feed your baby. I have breast fed 4 kids and i must admit i have had bleeding nipples in the early days but this was normal with cracked nipples until they got use to it. That does not mean to say that was happened to you does not happen and hopefully someone else will be able to give you more information. Let us all know how you go and keep calm or you wee one will notice and join you. Cyber hugs XXXXXX

Hi
I have nothing to add to the advice given above but to say try not to panic and many cyber hugs

Hi worried mummy,
Hope you went to see your gp today for some reassurance, fingers crossed everything will be ok, your body will still be changing, you only gave birth 7 weeks ago, do stop squeezing though, as this stimulates your body to produce milk, whether you breastfeed or not, keep in touch and let us know how you get on
