The Doctors didn't think it was anything at first.

I went doctors three times and was reassured that it was nothing to worry about. I kept persisting and when she felt it had got bigger I was sent to the Hospital. I was then diagnosed after a week from the mammogram, scan and biopsy. I am having operation in March but feel as though its spreading round my body. I have told them this but to no avail. Please help me.

I know waiting is an absolute swine and I would ring your BCN and explain how you are feeling just in case they have any cancellations or anything x

Hi Gabby

Try not to panic.

I went to the doctor 2 weeks before it became obvious that there was something wrong and he couldn’t find anything, even after having a good ‘furtle’.

So after this appointment on 2nd I then waited 2 weeks to be referred to breast clinic, which was 16th nov. Then 3 weeks for official diagnosis - 7th dec. 2 more weeks of tests were supposed to lead to me starting chemo on 20th dec but i had an allergic reaction. Next appointment was 5th jan and yet again had an allergic reaction, finally began on the 10th january.

I have to have a mastectomy but i opted to have it AFTER chemo as i thought that, for me, this was the best way for me to cope and so won’t have my op until the back end of May.

My consultant said at the time that they had certain time scales to meet otherwise they wouldn’t be paid, but realistically they have up to 6 months to begin the treatment.

I’m wondering if you know what type you are having to deal with? Mine is lobular and so quit difficult to detect as it look, feels and shows up on some scans as ordinary breast tissue.

As Mary Grace says the waiting is absolute hell and we have all been there. Take advantage of the phone lines and the nurses, they really know and understand the whole thing and will hopefull reassure you.

best of luck.

If it’s any consolation, I felt the same. Diagnosed on 8th December, had WLE and SNB on 10th Jan, more than a month later. Then re-excision on 26th Jan. I have now, finally, got the all-clear from the re-excision and am now waiting for the onc to see me, so from diagnosis to start of chemo it’ll be around three months!

But in the grand scheme of things, it’s no big deal because the surgeon has managed to get it all out so it’s not growing inside me any more, and the chemo will mop up any spare cells that might have escaped the breast, and the rads will zap any odd bits and pieces that escaped the knife.

Rest assured, they will get it all out and they’ll do their best to make the treatments as bearable as possible for you.

I went to see my GP twice before being referred as they told me it was lumpy bumpy breast tissue but I wasn’t convinced. Finally was referred on the Monday and was seen by the consultant on the Friday.
This was 2nd week in Nov 2010. 25th Nov I had WLE and SNB. 23rd Dec I had to have full axillary clearance as cancer had spread to a few lymph nodes. Started chemo on 3rd Feb.
To be honest I thought it all went relatively quickly.
Hope all goes ok for you xx
