The ultimate chemo playlist. What's your treatment tune?

So, I’m starting chemo soon and thinking of putting together a playlist to get me through. Should it be rock anthems? pop tunes? rousing classical works or simple piano melodies?

Top of my list:
Ben Howard - Keep your head up - it’s our family mantra
Underworld - Isles of wonder (from the Olympics opening ceremony)
The mission - Ennio Morricone

Please let me know what you’d put on your playlist!

Hi Cress,
what a great idea and I think I’ll follow suit.
some of mine would be:
What a wonderful world - Louis Armstrong
A change is gonna come - San Cooke
Feeling Good - Muse
I gotta feeling - Black Eyed Peas
Fix you - Coldplay
Interesting Drug - Morrissey
Land of Confusion - Genesis
New Sensation - INXS
People help the people - Birdy
She’s a star - James
Shine - Aswad
The Show - Lenka

… I’ll have to keep thinking

Hi Suffolklady,

I didn’t have a play list as I had chemo in Glasgow where we all talk to each other and the nurses so don’t be surprised if you don’t get a chance to play it!

Although as I walked to reception to book in for my first chemo the song ‘Hey Baby’ by Ricky Martin was playing on the radio and it made me smile and I knew then that everything was going to be fine. The reason was that at Christmas 2001 the school I was teaching in had a talent contest where one of my star pupils ( who won it the previous year ) sang it while the judges were considering their verdict. The whole school, including teachers, were up dancing and the atmosphere was better than you would get at any pop concert. It just gave me a warm glow.

Find songs/music that relaxes you and makes you feel good but be prepared not to use them during chemo but perhaps afterwards when you are on your way home and at home over the first few days or so.

Good Luck with chemo and take care, Liz, x

I was thinking maybe some Latin stuff, as I’m a Zumba freak and it’ll remind me of what I’m fighting to get back to. Plus it’s all feel good stuff.
If that doesn’t work, Bach Brandenburg Concertos might keep me calm. U2 is good rousing stuff (I’m Irish).
Cress, I had The Mission all prepared to listen to in labour with my eldest son - never listened to it in the end!

I couldn’t play any music, as the nurse administering Fec sat with me throughout, chatting. On my one and only Tax I was so tired, I tried to fall asleep. I think I would rather have listened to an audio book if I could. Although I love Latin American (Sergio Mendez is a favourite and Girl from Ipanema) and some classical jazz (Rhapsody in Blue or anything Gershwin).

They played music at chemo? I really missed out then. At Barts, we had comfy adjustable chemo chairs and lovely views, but no music
But least we get it for radiotherapy Music for zapping - Jazz, pop, and Rock.
A couple of suggestions for your playlist
In your wildest dreams by Moody Blues.
Canon by Pachebel
Catchy tunes you can wave your canala in time with…

For my FEC the nurse sat and talked while administering it but one of my fav’s to make me happy is Shiney Happy People by REM.

We did have HEART FM playing on the radio sometimes, but usually it was the telly!! I think this was the benefit of family who accompanied the person having chemo. I know some people take in their iPods to listen to.
