The waiting am CONFUSED??

Hi all, This is all new to me…

So i had an appointment with the the doctor on Tuesday 14th January as my left breast is extremely itchy and tender for a while now, also under my arm very tender and sometimes hard sometimes soft, also pain on body above breast.  Doc checked and said she found 2 or 3 bean size lumps so best to get checked, she made appointment for me, she told me should would make this priority. which worried me also.

I recieved one letter for an appointment with consultatne for the 5th February and another appointment for mamogramme which I had done yesterday.

Is it normal to have a consutlant appointment? I thought the results would just go back to the doctors?

I am worried about all of this so if anyone can give me any advise that would be great.

Shirley

My mammogram results went straight to the local Breast cancer care team and not to my GP - the waiting is hard but once the results are clear everything moves quickly.

Lots of walks in the fresh air

Hi Shirley,

Try not to worry too much. A lot of hospitals offer a one stop clinic, but as you’ve received two appointments, your hospital don’t appear to.

It’s absolutely normal to be referred as a priority if there’s any kind of lump You haven’t mentioned your age, but the older you get, the more likelihood of a two-week referral. It’s also par for the course to be seen by a consultant. It seems in your case, you’ve had the mammogram done, so the results will go to the consultant who can decide whether any additional tests (such as fine needle aspiration or core biopsy) are necessary.

Please don’t worry if they do take anything for testing. This Is usually just to rule out anything nasty.

I hope this clears up a few things, but always come back and post if you need any more advice or anything whatsoever.

Take care, and don’t worry yourself. Love Mel. xxx
