I have been to the breast screening clinic already regarding a thickened area of tissue on the upper, outer area of my breast which is palpable easily by GP and surgeon. Ultrasound negative, didnt find anything at all, no lump, no cyst etc. I am awaiting being seen again at clinic as GP not happy and wants me to have second opinion as still no reduction in breast mass. Anyhooo long story short I wondered if anyone might be able to tell my what this could be in terms of possible benign conditions which cause thickening inside the breast…I really want to try to stay as positive as possible during the wait and thought this might help.
It sounds like you’re having a pretty difficult at the moment. Whilst you are waiting for the other forum users to reply with their advice and experience you might also find it helpful to read breastcancercare.org.uk/content.php?page_id=148 which explains about different benign conditions.

I have a similar problem. I have had extra breast tissue which was diagnosed last year, this tissue has increased in size and is causing quite abit of discomfort.
I went to my breastcare unit yesterday and they informed me that it is benign and that I have nothing to worry about and that I should start taking evening primrose oil. I am planning on contacting the unit over the next few days to ask for a 2nd opinion.
It is wonderful that this is not malignant but like yourself I want to know why this is getting bigger and why it is causing me pain.
Don’t know whether this has helped but I suppose it is noce to know you are not alone!
