thin hair

I have been on arimidex now for nearly 3 mths. Some of the earlier side effects have eased, but not all.

My hair seems to be growing well on some parts of my head, but is very thin in 2 patches, 1 more than the other.

Was wondering will this improve, or is it down to the drug which says it can cause hair thinness?

Feeling pretty fed up. Thought I would have a full head of hair by now but still feel freakish at times. 5 mths since end of chemo, fec x 6.

Hi Irene
I always wear my hear pretty short, very fine anyway so would never have the long lustrious locks that many others have. I noticed about 6 weeks ago after being on Arimidex 5 weeks that when i dried my hair and tried to ruffle it up so it looked more stylish my hair has come out a bit, not a lot but now after i towel dry i do it outside the front door. It does say in the package insert it causes thinning of the hair, must be so frustrating for you after all that chemo, i won’t try to imagine how you must feel as i did not have chemmo but you certainly should not feel freakish, i am sure you are just as beautiful as you were before if not more.

Hi Irene, sorry to hear you’re feeling so glum about your hair. I finished chemo in June and was very excited that hair was coming back, but i think I fooled myself that there was a lot more there than was actually the case. Looking back i had a lot of fuzz and thin patches up till the end of last month. It may be that the arimidex is also having an effect, but I don’t think you should give up hope just yet. I know it’s hard, but I very much doubt that you look freakish - think back to all the women you saw at the chemo department, did you think they looked freakish? Of course not, it’s just that we get super sensitive about ourselves.
Try rolling a scarf and tying it like a headband round your head. it helps to take the eye away from the thinner bits and the ends give a sort of illusion of hair. It doesn’t work when you have no hair at all, but can look good when you have a little bit. Think gamine - Audrey Hepburn. It also makes you feel just a little bit more feminine.
Thinking of you
