I’m doing the Race for Life on Sunday ( or more of a leisurely stroll really). It’s with a whole bunch of friends and should be a good laugh. However I was at a bit of a loss as to what to put on my 'I race for’panel as I hardly want to put my own name.
So, if you have no objection I have put as many of the pen names from this site as I can cram in. People I have, for the most part never met, but who in many ways share more things with me than friends and family ever could.
Good luck Barbara! I’ve completed in 7 over the years but unfortunately my back won’t stand up for that much walking now but I’m hoping to see everyone who takes part in our area at the finishing post!
I really enjoyed the atmosphere of everyone taking part.
That’s a lovely gesture Margaret. I dont think I have “spoken” to you before because I rarely venture into the secondaries thread because I am fortunate not to be in that position but I opened this because you said it was for us all and I am glad I did. I did Race for Life in early May and I put on my name panel that I Race for Life for Me cos I’ve beaten it and You in the hope that you won’t have to. My “team” all had my name on their panels which was a very emotional thing to see, I have done the race before and never thought I would see my name on one.
I started a thread for people to post their times and experience, I will try and dig it out and push it to the front so you can let us know. I did 51 minutes which I was very proud of cos I did it last year 2 days after DX in 1 hour.
Hi Margaret,
thats a lovely gesture and we should all send you a few £s to help up your charity donation.
As I am finding walking a problem at moment put my name down for next year!
What a lovely idea - thank you. Hope you will have a lovely day and lots of fun as well as raising money for this cause so close to all our hearts.

Hi
I’ve only just returned to work as headteacher of an infant school. One of my 5 year old pupils came into my office to show me the medal she’d received for taking part in Race for Life. She then showed me the panel she’d worn on her T-shirt which read, “I race for life for Mrs Cook, my Headteacher at **** School”.
You can imagine how I felt! I cried my eyes out for the first time ever in school! I gave her a big hug and sent her a card to thank her. I think that is by far the nicest, most touching, thing anyone has ever done for me. I now have a photo of her, clutching her medal and panel, on the wall in my office.
So good luck Barbara-you go girl! Do it for all of us girls affected by BC but most of all for yourself!
What a lovely story Gill. No wonder you bawled!
Go for it manon - a lovely idea. Thank you for putting us on your back. Hope you enjoy it with your friends.
love Jacquie
I walked it last year and in 2005. I remembered some friends who had died but also put ‘me’ on my back but then I’m a narcissist (is that spelt right?)
Most breast cancer fund raising events turn my stomach (don’t mention that b**** fashion show) but I think Race for Life is really moving.
Wonderful idea and please put your name on it even if you use your username here. I am sponsoring someone else but at least we know the money all goes in the same pot.
Hope you enjoy the event and hope your feet are OK on the xeloda!!!
Hope to meet you again

Drove by Midsummer Common this morning and wondered what was going on. Then remembered! Didn’t see you in the throng but it looked as though it was all going really well - a very impressive sight.
hi ,we did the race for life in may this year,i ran for my sister and brother in law who we lost to cancer in march this year,so it was very emotional.when you read all the messages that people put on their backs it brings it home to you just how many people suffer from cancer .may i wish you well ,took us over an hour and as im in recovery myself i was really tired but it was worth it as we had a laugh as we has dressed up as pink faireis !!! lynn x
Well it was lovely. I shall definitely do it again next year (all being well) but will put more effort into my costume. I had nothing pink so next year will look out the pink wig…
