Thoughts on skipping hormone therapy

I am grateful of this discussion & feel somewhat less alone in my thoughts & feelings regarding hormone therapy - the team seem incredibly unwilling to discuss this with me.

I have felt absolutely horrendous since my treatment path & so much in my body has changed. I also have endometriosis & from everything I have read - tamoxifen has the potential to cause more problems here. X

Dear countrysideaddict - I could have written your post exactly word for word!! I had a break for 8 weeks as, like you, the side effects of Letrozole were becoming unbearable. I tried the others and felt no better. Having decided better the devil you know, I went back onto Letrozole and second time around it really hasn’t been half so bad. I pinned my oncologist to the desk and asked what were my chances if I stopped altogether. The simplest way he said he could describe it was that if 20 people had the same cancer, stopped the letrozole, then in 5 years 3 of you would be dead. I don’t know if these comments help but please give it another go. I said if the symptoms are as bad again, I will stop and take my chances. Best hugs to you xx

Hi Benji,

That scenario sounds like a much higher benefit for taking it for your situation - 15% increase in survival over 5 years - and probably would be worth trying again  Of course this doesn’t apply to everyone..

Hi wizzer! Thank you for responding to my comment. You are absolutely right, we all respond to treatments in different ways. I should have said that the oncologist’s comment was specific to me. I would still encourage people to have a second bite if the cherry as I did and as I then found out, my body reacted in a totally different, and better, way. Had it not, I would have quit the AIs! Hugs to you. Gx

Hi benji - thank you so much for letting me know how it went for you. It is encouraging to hear! I have a telephone appointment with my oncologist at the end of the month and will bear in mind what you have said - I agree a lot with better the devil you know as the others offer different side effects to get used to. It will be 11 weeks before I have the appointment so they are completely out of my system and I feel great but apprehensive as I am not on the preventative!! It’s such a quandary but I will see what the oncologist says - when I did the Predict the result was only 2% but I just want to clarify this with the oncologist and I will post my decision and why - so hopefully it will help others, as has your post. Thank you and good luck with everything
