Thursday Chat Room
Thursday Chat Room Just asking why - no other men use the chat on a Thursday Evening. I seem to be the only one there?
Come on guys give it a go. David
Chat room Hi David
I’m pretty busy just now but I can tell you that BCC have not given up the notion of the chat room for men to be revived should the use of this forum continue to rise.
I will be asking for them to review it in about six months.
Glad to hear the training went well.
Best wishes
Bill
On my own again Bill how you doing - not heard from you for awhile.
David W
Hi david …I’m doing OK. Just too busy at work and still have some aches and pains!!
I’m off, after work, to the annual conference of BCC volunteers in Scotland. It’s in Falkirk this year and I’m looking forward to meeting all the people I know again. I won’t be back home until Sunday evening.
How are you? Have you finished all your training now?
Take care and best wishes to all.
Bill
Me Too Bill I am ok Bill - but I have a dull ache in the lower back region - went to the clinic mentioned it to them - blood test and another bone scan to have ASAP - have to go then for results.
Aches n pains all over - we need the sunshine now to warm up all the joints - roll on summer.
The training will not finish until May - have to go to Sheffield on the 20th to finish off - then look out BC patients you may get to speak to me.
Enjoy your meeting Bill

I’m still here too Hi fellas,
I keep looking in the forums but haven’t had anything interesting to say, hence my absence. I have been busy at work too.
Reading about your aches and pains David, reminded me that I had my GP write to the Oncology department asking about the effects of Tamoxifen on Bone density. The answer came back as none - surprise surprise.
I can’t remember whether you are on Tamoxifen David so I don’t know whether it is applicable to you.
Regards and hope this finds you all well, bar the aches.
Brian
Aches and pains Hi Brian
I’ve just had a lookm at the BCC info leaflet about tamoxifen and I think you should have a read at it. There is a particular paragraph about the effects of tamoxifen on bones ( albeit women’s) but my argument is that men should be given a bone density scan if they are taking any kind of hormonal treatment that might affect their bones. Ask your GP to set one up for you.
I My GP , who has an interest in osteporosis, finally relasied that I was taking ARIMIDEX and may need a bone density scan. By the time one was arranged it only confirmed osteporosis.
I think as soon as any man is prescribed a hormonal treatment for BC he should have a bone scan to benchmark the bone density and then follow up scans to see if changes have occurred.
Take care
Bill
Hiya again Brian - yes I am on tamoxifen - nearly 2 years now - bloated all the time.
Aches n pains in joints down to Rheumatism - but for the last 2 1/2 weeks have had a dull ache in the lower back mentioned this at clinic and they want me to have another scan. I had a bone scan in September/October last year (just waiting for appointment to come through)
So fingers crossed all is ok again.
Dont know about you lot - but I am getting fed up of feeling unwell.
cheers David W
I’m not… …constantly feeling unwell - but I do have bouts of exhaustion and aching joints - usually if I have been doing something particularly physical. But a days rest and a hot bath normally sorts that out, so yet again I can count myself lucky and I admire you fellas for the way you deal with your issues. I sympathise with you David, but chances are there is a good period around the corner, keep your spirits up and we’ll go and sort the world out over a beer next week.
I try hard not to limit my activities. I can’t justify wrapping myself up in cotton wool on a “just in case”. As we have all discovered “shit happens” and I would rather try and carry on as normal than worry about what might happen - not that I’m saying you guys are - its just my attitude.
Bill - thanks for the pointer on the Tamoxifen issue, I shall bring it to the attention of my GP and I will be interested to know how she takes it forward with my consultant oncologist(who is a friend of hers).
Regards and best wishes all
Brian
Hi Guys I can truly say that I’ve forgotten how it feels to feel well - if you get my meaning.
There is a price to pay for the “cure” and I think we might be paying for it!!
The best we can do is to be the best we can in the face of continuing upset. Cancer truly is an awful thing and we have to overcome that notion and at the same time rejoice in our survival and, relatively, good health!!
Be good to yourselves and yours.
Take care
Bill
