thyroxine and tamoxifen

I hae been on Femara fr 20 months and was changed to tamoxifen with really bad effects. I take 75mcg of Thyrdoxine daily for my underactive thyroid, but the taxmoxifen speeded up the thyroxine in my system and made me shake, palpitations and constantly hungry. I had had to come off the tamoxifen and the onc is now talking about faslodex injections. IS THERE ASNYONE OUT THERE WHO HAS EXPERIENCED A CLASH WITH TAMOXIFEN AND THYROXINE.

I have taken thyroxine for 30 years and started tamoxifen 4 months ago, haven’t noticed a clash with thyroxine but had a test recently that showed although my thyroid was Ok with current medication, the TSH (Thyroid stimulating hormone) was supressed as if I had too much thyroxine…so I am going for another test in a month.

interesting, slightly different for me…i take 100mcg of thyroxine daily and am on arimidex,i will be interested to see if it affects my thyroid results

I am on Thyroxine and will be going on Tamoxifen an the near future I will let you know how I get on.

I started off on Tamoxifen, and felt awful. I had a blood test and the onc discovered I had underactive thyroid, didn’t have it before chemo etc. I am now on 50mg thyroxine and Armidex, I still feel awful and exhausted!!!

I too take thyroxine and arimidex. I had been taking thyroxine for about 10 years before I got breast cancer. When I started on the arimidex 4 years ago I was on 100mcg thyroxine, but now I need 150 mcg. Just thought this sort of progression was normal, though and probably nothing to do with the arimidex.

hi Gwyn2, just thought you were making sure i got the message!! :slight_smile: :slight_smile: i’ll be interested then to see if i need to jiggle my thyroxine, but of course, you’re right, it might just be a natural progression, having to up the dose, thanks for letting me know

Hi all

I have been on tamoxifen for about a month now and asked my doc to check my TSH and it was ok.
So far so good.
