tingling after radiotherapy 2nd session

Hi everyone

I have just come back from only my 2nd radiotherapy session and I can feel like lots of tiny pins and needles and a few real sharp pains. Is this normal after only two and does it get worse and if so, apart from aqueous cream, what else can I do?

Hi Cathy,
I have just completed 23 rads, and I too got the pins and needles and stabbing pains from time to time. I used cream but we were also told to exercise our arm just the same as after surgery, and I did find this helped it can be a little sore but your arm will feel the benefit as mine did get quite tight. I did ten stretches morning and night. Hope this helps a little.

Hi Cathy
I have had five sessions now and yes I have had the same, mini stabbbing pains and breast more sensitive than normal, noticed after 3rd session. I will only have 17 sessions in total and hope it will not get worse with remaining 12. I do believe we are supposed to excersise as we did after op. are you? Alicex

Hi Alice

I was lucky enough not to have nodes removed so no-one has mentioned exercise. I think you have hit the nail on the head. Its because I am having to lie with my arms outstretched that I am using muscles not normally used (I don’t suppose many people have their hands above their head much unless they are a pole dancer!) My breast does feel sore and there are lots of little tingles and a couple of big stabs. I can put up with it no problem, but was concerned that it would get constantly worse. If you have had 17 and OK then I should be as I am only in for 13 total.

Will do some exercises - bought the new Rosemary Conley DVD - who am I kidding??

lol, no I doubt I would use the DVD either, but could be a laugh with a few glasses of wine! I do make sure I stretch… I did not have nodes invovled either just SNB where they removed two nodes. As my lobular lump was so near armpit they got lump and sentinal nodes out of same wound, lucky to only have one scar for WLE and SNB. Alice

My bosom swelled and has taken about three years to go back to normal. It felt heavier after the first session and that continued. Radiotherapy caused a sort of lymphoedema of the breast - plus I got sunburn type rash, and the skin peeled off especially the nipple area, my nipple also looks much bigger on the left side where I had radio and is permanently erect.

Mole

Sorry that must be annoying Mole. Is there any particular reason for this reaction?9other that being zapped with radioactivity!!!which of course no one undernormal circumstances would choose). Off for a blast right now ; )
Alice

Mole, thats sound awful!! Got a lot to look forward to then!! Oh the joys - people don’t know what they’re missing. peeling skin and surrounding in the waiting room by the cast of Thriller - can’t wait

I got a tingling after my 6th session but only for about an hour or so - after my 7th they returned but again I was lucky and they went away … I think the fact that I had a 3 day break (sat/sun off for good behaviour and Monday cos they were servicing the machine) … last week was actually my 1st 5 day week and I was just getting all smug thinking how well I was going … til I again started this week and I got right on in there with the pink glow, stabbing pains and burning all over my boob - around my back and in my armpit!

No peeling so far … but now that I’ve said that I bet I do the snow storm at this weekend!

Isn’t it amazing tho how we suffer all these nasty bolt-ons and yet when someone asks how we are the common reply is ‘yeah fine thanks!’

I’m going to shock someone soon & say ‘well actually… since you’ve asked… grab a chair this may take some time!’ … if you read my new thread ‘delicate side effect’ under the hormone treatment section please feel free to offer suggestions on how discuss this matter with my colleagues… the majority of whom are young and male!

How did it goe today? Are you still tingling?
