TNBC and lung nodules

Hi all,

It’s my first time posting here. I was sadly diagnosed with TNBC on 5th Aug, 34 years old and 2 month’s postpartum :broken_heart: I found my lump breastfeeding and thought it’s probably to do with breastfeeding but it wasn’t. Unfortunately the cancer is in my lymph nodes as well (4 were enlarged on my MRI). I started chemo end of Aug and my initial CT just before I started treatment showed multiple nodules in each lung, around 7mm. I was devastated at the thought of being stage 4, I acted quickly, how could this be happening, especially with a newborn and 2 year old  The nodules were too small for PET resolution or to biopsy and another CT required 3 months later. I had another CT this month, I was so worried because I’d been coughing a lot - such bad timing and I was convinced this was due to the lung nodules. The CT came back and the nodules have disappeared which is great but it’s now suspected lung mets. Has anyone else been in a similar position or heard of any stories like this? Can someone have multiple benign lung nodules that disappear? I know it looks suspicious because they’ve disappeared during chemo.. I really don’t know what to think.

Also, I need to decide on a picc or a port asap as my veins in my hands and arms are ruined from chemo via cannula. I’m leaning towards a port with having 2 very young children but I’m a bit nervous about the procedure. If anyone has any advice/experiences, please let me know. Thank you xx

You have had really bad news and you have only just had a baby. My heart goes out to you because all I can do is say how unfair it all is and that you have had enough bad news for a lifetime recently.

I have not got children but I am sorry I didn’t so one plus is having your baby. I am sure you are worried about how you can look after her with cancer treatment and Christmas and anxiety.

You are not alone - please play the cancer card and throw your toys out of the pram. If you ask for help you should get it. Nothing can take away all the sadness but you have a lovely baby.

Hi @khol03

I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis, it seems exceptionally unfair for a young Mum to be dealt a hand like this.

I would like to welcome you to the forum, where I hope you’ll get a lot of support.

Below you will find links to two categories that I think it would be helpful you to join, one is for younger women and one for those with TNBC secondaries. You can get more out of the forum by targeting the threads which really apply to your situation.

The third link is to the Breast Cancer Now initiative called Someone Like Me in which you are introduced to someone in a similar situation to yourself, with whom you can form a 121 relationship, usually over the phone. Many have found it a great help and support.

Just click on any, or all, of the links to start.

The biggest of big hugs to you and I hope your treatment goes very well.

I have heard that ports really help as you don’t have to have cannullas in your veins. I have awful veins so if I has been offered a port I would probably have said yes please, but best to ask someone with more experince than me - maybe a nurse or a person going through chemo

Hi, I am sorry you are going through this. I cannot imagine how difficult it must be for you and your family. Please don’t be afraid of the procedure to fit a port. It does mean a few hours in hospital as it needs to be fitted in an interventional radiology suite. Mine took about 50 minutes under local anaesthetic. A bit of pulling around but no worse than going to the hygienist. Once healed, it’s fantastic as it puts no restrictions on your life. I have had mine for 3 and a half years (I have metastatic TNBC) and it’s never given me a moment’s bother.

I hope I can also bring some hope on the TNBC front too. I found I had liver mets before I completed cheno for my primary cancer. My TNBC is PD-L1 positive and I was able to be treated with the immunotherapy pembrolizumab. It’s put me into what so far has been a sustained remission.
