Ladies, I have been signed off from routine mammos and ultrasounds now as 7 yrs clear.(43 yrs old now) Had a mammo last month via employers free health scheme, called back due to density area showing on health breast (had mast and recon on other breast 7yrs ago) which hospital are sure is a fibroadaema (sorry for spelling) and therefore not a nasty, got to have a biospy just to make sure, this is all doing my head in!! Wish Id have never bothered with the mammo last month and just been happy that I have been signed off and therefore not a concern to the hopsital, If I hadnt had the mammo, I would be none the wiser and this innocent little lump could just stay where it is (even consultant said that it didnt have to be removed). On the other hand, was I right to have the check just to make sure - dont think I can stand all this man handling ever few years, just want to be left alone. Do I say enough is enough and stay breast aware and not take up any annual checks now or do I take my annual mammos from work and also take the possible recalls and biopsies ? ERRRRGGGHHHHHH!!!
I can’t advice you but think after your results you will feel better. I know biopsies are a drag but to be told all clear would be great news. I personally would go for scans as I would be afraid of missing something. I get your point though if all innocent then you have had needless anxiety. Not much help sorry.
I can certainly understand why you are questioning whether you have made the right choices. Your reasoning for both scenarios are well thought out.
Unfortunately, decisions like these are extremely personal because whatever decision you make it is YOU that has to deal with the consequences.
It really comes down to whether your ‘mind’ can come to terms with not having routine mammos/ultrasounds or you would continue to worry each year if you didn’t have an annual check.
Had planned biopsy today, when consultant put needle in to check it wasnt fluid (before doing proper biospy tissue thing), it popped and disappeared, it was fluid. Bit of blood in it but being sent for testing anway. dont know if this is anything to worry about? Lump seemed to completely deflate and disappear on the screen, ???
