Ps I started chemo in Nov x its doable not easy not nice but doable x pop into previous months threads with questions the Aug/Sept/Oct ladies were fab when I had questions and those plus us Nov/Dec ladies will try to help
Hello ladies,
Received a load of apps today & I’m a bit confused so any help would be greatly appreciated.
I was told on 24/12 that I would be having my mastectomy 12/1, meeting with bcn 8/1 & have my pre op. My bcn said I would have a radioactive thing done (I believe this is a sentinel lymph node biopsy? Correct me if I’m wrong) she said I’d have it the day of the op whilst I’m under as it’s a blue dye that stings but I’ve got an app for this on 11/1. Is this the same thing or 2 seperate things?
Does it hurt?
I have a 2 yr old who has additional needs & has major seperation anxieties towards me am I right in thinking I can’t hold him etc because of this radioactive thing?
Sorry if I sound stupid but I’m really confused.
Thanks ladies, I hope your Xmas was as good as can be.
Paula xx
Thank you Lynn, did it hurt whilst putting it in?
Also my lump is on the underside of my breast, I have noticed an increase in size since finding it, is that normal? I’ve also noticed that on top of my breast I’ve started getting spots is that normal? X
It’s spreading!!!
Yep it’s spread up to my nipple, cant really feel a lump but around my nipple feels & looks thicker. Also had some discharge from nipple just a tiny bit but it was there. Op not til next Tuesday so I’m now thinking how much further will it spread in a week!
On a positive note my little boy has his first settling in session at nursery tomorrow so that’ll take my mind of it!
Xx
Pjlady, are you having an appointment before surgery? If so they may be able to put your mind at rest. Before surgery I had an infected cyst which the nurse drained and eczema on my nipple - both were unrelated to the cancer, but didn’t help my general feeling of horribleness! Could be you have something similar, but they’ll be able to put your mind at rest.
Good luck to you and your little boy at nursery tomorrow, hope it all goes well. Xxx
Thanks Kim, I’m seeing my bcn Friday & having my pre op. Going in Monday to have something put in (something to do with radiation )so they can put blue dye in on op day, does that even make sense?
So confused!
I don’t know if it is unrelated or not but the lump has gotten bigger & my breast just feels ‘different’, I’ll be glad when Tuesday arrives.

Thank you Ali-B it’s alot to take in isn’t it! X
Just a little update ladies…
Mastectomy went well, 3 lymph nodes taken results on 29th.
In a little bit of pain but not too bad, don’t think drain will be out today as loosing too much fluid so hopefully tomorrow, I’m sure I’ll feel a bit better once that’s out!
Staying positive & sending you all love & support

Pleased it went well Paula, hope you’re recovering well and the pain is manageable still ![]()
I had 3 drains probably because I had reconstruction at the same time, and went home with one. You do get used to them, more of an annoyance after a while especially when you go to walk off without it!! Hopefully yours will be out soon.
Good luck with the results of your lymph nodes, it always seems like forever waiting for results!!
How did your little boy get on at nursery? Hope it all went well ![]()
Take care and rest while you can! Xxx
Hi Ali b & Kim
Still got my drain in unfortunately as it’s draining more than 40ml in 24 hours but I’d rather it be draining in the bottle than my chest! Fingers crossed for tomorrow.
Nursery is going slowly… someone has to stay with him as he’s just not settling which is a bit difficult at the min but we’ll get there.
Love & support to you ladies

Definately better keeping the drain in - I had immediate seroma(?) build up the moment my drain was removed - was draining about 10 ml a day when it was removed. I havent had it drained, but consultant was in 2 minds whether to do so when I was there on Thursday for a check up, but decided to let nature continue to take it’s course. Which I was relieved about because I didn’t want the pain at the time!! Maybe I should have. It’s not too bad though, just a little uncomfortable now and again.
Hopefully your little boy will start to settle soon. Some children take longer than others even if they have no additional needs (I used to work in a Playgroup). My own son settled really quickly at 21/2 the decided it just wasn’t for him at 4! You can never tell! He’s 21 now, if I knew then what I know now about him, I dont think I would have worried so much, but you just want them to progress as quickly as their peers don’t you, and with all of this going on with you added to his needs, its just more pressure than you need right now.
Wishing you all the best
Take care xxx
