Hi looking for advice or to see if anyone has gone through anything similar after a tooth extraction. Tooth removed by my regular dentist, meds stopped and Denosumab injections. Healed well. 6 weeks later started having pain around the site of extraction, was moderate pain and hoped it would go away. Noticed pain increased with sensitivity and started throbbing at bedtime. Took paracetamol. Pain gradually increased, Oncology advised going back to Dentist. X-ray taken, nothing to show any sign of infection or anything else wrong. Just told it was the bone healing. Pain increased, sleepless nights, 24/7 , getting fed up now. Tried to get help from GP just told to continue with paracetamol! I want to know what the underlying cause is and I am worried about Osteonecrosis of the Jaw which no one has mentioned yet. Speaking to Oncology again in a couple of days. Should I ask to be referred to to an oral and maxillofacial surgeon for a referral?

I am also on 4 weekly injections of Denosumab and other meds. So far no tooth work needed, but, and this is just my opinion, if I had all this pain I would ask to be referred and not let it go until I had an answer. I have stage 4 breast cancer and the lump I had in my chest wall was dismissed by a radiologist doing an ultrasound as just my rib. ‘No one has two ribs the same’. I then left it for a year and by the time I was diagnosed it had grown significantly. She was seeing the rib as the cancer was growing underneath the rib. I wish I had been more insistent and asked for a referral for a CT scan. Go with your gut feeling - we have to advocate for ourselves.

Well I am sorry it took so long for you to get the diagnosis. Hear too many stories of people not being taken seriously and delayed diagnosis. I have been back to the Dentist and prescribed antibiotics even though I don’t have an infection, said it could help the healing of the bone. I am definitely asking for a referral to find out what the underlying issue is. Best of luck with your treatment
