Total Duct Excision

Hi All

I wonder if anyone can help me with some advise. I went to my GP with breast pain, nipple discharge (reddish/brown/black) and some skin ‘ulcers’ on my breast. My GP referred me to the hospital and I had mammograms and ultrasound.

The specialist says that the ducts are dilated and there is some calcification showing on the mammogram and recommended total duct excision - even though the discharge is only from one duct. I’ve agreed to this and am having the excision in 10days time. He has told me that the dilation can only be caused by a papilloma or DCIS.

Can anyone let me know if it’s normal that I haven’t had any biopsy before the total duct excision and if anyone would know how long after the operation will i have to wait to find out if it was papilloma or DCIS.

Many thanks everyone.

Hi - I have had roughly the same symptoms and diagnosis as you but the radiographer did a core biopsy because she could see ‘debris’. I am getting the results next Saturday.
Before the ultrasound I was just going to go straight to the operation like you so perhaps it is just the case that it was easier to get a sample from me?
I am waiting a week for results so you shouldn’t be longer than that.
