Travel abroad on perjeta and herceptin

Hii wonder if anyone has been through similar situation.
Was diagnosed with liver and lung mets before christmas.
Im currently on taxotare (chemo), perjeta and herceptin. Had 5th chemo yesterday. Last chemo due on 24th april. Will then carry on with just perjeta and herceptin til the end of time!
Have had herceptin before with no side effects not sure what will happen with perjeta.
Desperately need holiday/break/sone sun. Have booked a cruisr for end of june for a week in he med. Realised probably should have talked to the oncologist but havent yet. The chemo nurse said they wont be happen but i said so said what am i not allowed to go away for rest of my life??
Any thoughts anyone?

Hi bunny71 and welcome to the secondaries part of the forum.

I was on the same combo as you are now and travelled abroad as many times as I could! I didn’t do this whilst on the chemo part of the treatment but afterwards whilst on H and P. Ever since I was diagnosed with secondaries (in 2008) my OH and I have had lots of shorter holidays to Europe as well as further afield such as USA and even South Africa.

I can’t see any reason that you wouldn’t be able to travel, and go on your cruise. The H and P part of the regime is very doable and I had no bad side effects at all whilst on it. The main thing would be to get travel insurance and this is the tricky area but there’s a thread on here, I think in the Living with SBC section, that has a lot of companies that will insure you reasonably. Although you may feel perfectly well it’s always best to have insurance in place in case anything at all happened that could be linked to your secondaries which would be a costly medical issue if you had no insurance.

Good luck with the last chemo at the end of April and stay in touch with us on here if you want - we’re a friendly and supportive bunch ?

Thanks for your reply it was really helpful.
As ita a cruise there is medical staff on board and ive looked a little into insurance and not too bad with Boots but still going to shop around.
Juat worried about the perjeta as i read it can cause hair loss and lower your white blood cells. Ive been in and out of hosoital with the chemo and been netripenic sepsis once though last cycle was fine as they gave me extra bone marrow injections.
Ita such a pain. Im so fed up with it. Had no smytoms foe the secondaries and felt well just found by accident (or maybe not as the case maybe?
Sod it im going whatever they say. If i have to live with this for the rest of my life then i fully intend to live my life.
Thanks again x
