Travel insurance - a pleasant surprise

My task this morning was to arrange travel insurance for a two week holiday in Mauritius in August. I have a bone met in my spine, and have recently finished chemo and rads. I am on Avastin and Zometa, and will start Femara shortly. I was expecting travel insurance covering BC to be difficult to arrange and expensive, involving long questionnaires and medical histories. The first two companies I approached confirmed this suspicion. One declined cover, the other quoted £250 with a £1500 excess.

Imagine my surprise when my third call, to Bromley Insurance (thanks Jodie for your post with the list of companies to try), resulted in a quote of £72 to cover my BC, minimal excess, no questions asked, the only requirement being a Fitness to Travel letter from onc. They are trialling this breast cancer travel policy - so I very much hope this trial is a success and they continue to provide it. I just thought I would share this good news for anyone else in a similar position.

Hi Finty,

I’m so glad the post was of help to you and I’m delighted that you managed to get such a great deal. Hope you have a marvellous time. I’ve been following your posts on the ‘Stress and Cancer’ thread with great interest but don’t have enough knowledge to make a worthwhile contribution. Hope you are feeling well, have a super day. Lotsa love, Dianne x x x

Thanks Dianne - have given up on that thread - got a bit too stressful!!

Hi

I rang Bromley insurance yesterday too, and am waiting for them to call me back with quote - so fingers crossed. Although insure pink quoted my £64.65 (something like that) for me and my family inclusive. Great quote if u ask me, and they know I am on Capecitabine too, along with Herceptin.

Let u know what Bromley quotes me too.

Thanks for the number for Bromley too.

Love
Dawn

Just on this point i tried to get a quote from MIA who i have used before but because I am going on a cruise they wouldn’t quote. said the risk of infection too high. I did get insurance from Pink insurance.
Its a blooming horror this whole cancer thing!

muddy have a wonderful time on your cruise - where are you going?

Hi Girls, Dawn, lovely to see you on here, hope you are well. Muddy, what did Pink insurance quote you for the cruise. We are going on one in September and I haven’t got the insurance yet so I’d really be interested to know what they’ve said.

Finty, hope you are ok, don’t blame you for giving up on the ‘Stress and Cancer’ thread, it was getting a bit heated wasn’t it? I can’t be doing with confrontation at this point in my life!!

Take care everyone, lots of love to you all. Dianne x x x

Hi,

I have started using insurancewith.com for travel insurance, I did notice that they did a policy for people going on a cruise. There rates are really good and I did read on another travel insurance thread that they do cover people with secondaries. I did also find them slightly cheaper than Pink.

Quoted £49.00 so happy with that.
Heading on Thursday. FLy to Palma then its Corsica, Naples, Barcelona, Toulon and somewhere else - not really in that order!
Looking forward to it but energy levels not great so hope I’ll pick up!

hi all

I’ve used Bromley and Insure Pink and both excellent. I think Bromley are cheaper if you are less than a year from dx and then Insure Pink. Just back from 10 days in spain with insure pink and it was £18!!! and I’m still on Herceptin til Sep!
Happy Holidays!

Thanks for telling us about Bromley Insurance.

I go to visit my friend in Malaysia most years.

Pink quoted me about £65 last year and about £165 this year. Bromley is about £75. My health is no worse than it was a year ago so I don’t understand Pinks quote.

Hi Muddy, thanks for that. What a great quote. I’m going in September, similar sort of places to you but leaving from Southampton. I hope you have a wonderful time, let us know what it was like when you get back.

Take care, lots of love to you all. Dianne x x x
