Travel insurance for USA??

I am planning to take my 2 kids to Florida in September after my chemo has finished for secondary breast cancer (lung, liver and bone) I got married there and am desparate totake them to show them, I had originally planned to go May but unfortunately now find myself with a secondary diagnosis. Will anyone insure me for this trip or will I need to pay stupid amounts of money??? Any advice appreciated

Hi Jill
Last year I paid silly money with Insure Cancer for a trip to USA & Canada. This is because at the time they were the only ones that would consider me - I’d just been told my bone mets had spread & had started on capecitabine. We paid the money due to medical costs in North America & my condition being unstable. The oncology team had no issues with me going away.
I have just returned from a 4 week trip to Oz & NZ. This time I’ve taken out an annual policy with EuroTunnel For £79. Thier only condition was a letter from my doctor stating I was fit to travel. Again my oncologist was very encouring & supportive. We thought this was all acceptable as my condition is now stable & Oz/NZ have reciprocal emergency arrangements. I wasn’t aware of the Eurotunnel policy when we went to the States. I don’t know if I would have risked it.
Hope that helps. Also check out the sticky in this section on travel insurance for more info.

Hi Jill
I also have a secondary diagnosis and was refused cover for travel to USA by just about everyone.
All Clear would cover me for £4250.
Insure Cancer wanted £1500 just to cover the cancer and nothing else with a £3000 excess. They needed all sorts of blood test results and medical reports and wouldn’t cover for more than a month before travel.
I was absolutely distraught as we’d had to cancel 3 planned holidays because of chemo and the insurance situation.
After recommendations on here I got annual worldwide cover from Eurotunnel for 3 of us for under £200. It all seemed too good to be true so I quizzed the poor girl on the phone for ages and she had answers for all my questions. She assured me nothing was excluded and all they needed was for my doctor to say I was fit to travel. You can read the policy wording online before you buy. We went to Florida in January and I’m planning another trip in a few weeks time, again I’ve checked the details with my onc and had him note that I am fit to travel.
I’d be interested to hear from anyone who has had to claim but really hope nobody has to.

Hi Jill
I am planning to go to Canada this year and thought i would not get affordable travel insurance. I saw these posts last night and found some more under the living with breast cancer forum, it was in the section employment, travel and financial issues. Other people have commented on this company (eurotunnel) and although I have no experience with the company other people have. After I looked at the website last night I thought I had the wrong site, but no. I phoned them today and found that I will get cover and the excess is not huge (£35 for medical) You should give them a phone, the girl was lovely on the phone, the number is 08443 353535. I was qouted £132 for myself and my fiance, for a worldwide annual policy including winter sports (£112) without sports. My trip isn’t until July so I will definately be phoning them nearer the time. I am over the moon knowing I can go.
