Travel insurance rant

Hi , I was dx breast cancer 2008 , chemo , radiotherapy in 2009 , now on Arimidex . Just starting to get over all this this when in August 2012 I was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer , in both lobes. Full thyroidectomy followed by radioactive iodine abalation in October 2012 .
Have been trying to find travel insurance , but because I have had two cancers ( not related ) cannot find any sensible prices !! Was hoping someone might have some useful suggestions.
Hugs,
Jill x

Suggest you try Eurotunnell as above - they ahve no health questionaire so you should be OK regardless of no of cancers.
Nina

Jill I would echo Nina’s comments.
I have taken out a 1 yr worldwide ins this afternoon with Eurotunnel. The young woman on the 'phone did not ( emphatically) want to know my med history. I need to have a fitness to travel comment written in my GP/Onc records. She did need to know that I was under 70 though.
Wishing you luck with this, sounds as though you really need a holiday xxx

Hi all,
I am really intrested in the Euro Tunnel insurance it seems such a bargin, but if it doesn’t pay out then it would be a very costly mistake indeed particularly in an emergency in a country like America. So my question is has anyone made a claim for their medical condition with them and how easy was is to claim?
It just seems too good to be true so I want to make completely sure I am not going to end up with a huge medical bill, should something happen when I am on hols and they won’t pay up because of some bit of small print or my Doctor letter doesn’t say exactly what they need it to say!
Many thanks

Hi
I am also interested in the Eurotunnel insurance but can someone, who has taken out the policy clarify the following. I am sure I read a post from someone on here stating that certain treatments may not be covered ie if you have to go into hospital, is this true? Therefore if anyone is, say, having herceptin, would they be excluded? I’ve tried to read the T’s & C’s on the Eurotunnel website but couldnt get them to download. I don’t need it for now but would like to know for future reference.
Thx
Nicky

I was diagnosed with BC at the end of October last year and I was found to have a evasive lobular cancer it was 9 mm. It was removed at the end of November and 2 lymph nodes removed. The cancer had not spread to the lumph nodes and all the lump had been removed. Just completed radiotherapy and was told not to sort insurance out until radiotherapy had been completed as it would cost more. This holiday was booked prior to my cancer being diagnosed.
I Sorted out insurance on Friday last after spending most of the morning on the telephone. I rang Insure Pink and they quoted me and my husband for 17 days cover to the USA £344.60 single trip. My husband takes tablets for blood pressure and statins, I also rang Insurance With they quoted me £534.83 for a 12 month policy and £239.84 for a single trip. I then rang All Clear they quoted me £613.84 for a 12 month policy. Freespirt would not give me a quote because I still had to have a follow up consultation with the oncologist. I then rang Worldfirst - 0845 9080161 as this company had been recommended on this site by another lady. I was given a quote for a single trip of £243.15 and a 12 month Policy of £219.75 which covers both me and my husband. I have taken out this policy. Please be aware all th companies will ask you lots of questions and there is also quite hefty excess on declared medical conditions but this company is the most reasonable I found.

One trip is £21.00
These are brill prices. - adviced me to get a letter from my doctor to say I am fit to travel and finished treatment
Will be booking , this is for a Europe policy
Eurotunnel number is 08443 353535

Thanks
Rosie xx

Glad they helped Rosie. Favour - couild you contact MacMillan who seem slow to pick them up for inclusion in their recommended travel people - it seems they need zillions of endorsements before they act!!

Nicky08 My mother took out the eurotunnel policy. She did explain to me if you have ongoing treatments in hospital you will not be covered for that pre excisting condition, so Im guessing if a woman like my mother is on a monthly zometa infusion she will not be covered for anything related to her breast cancer.

Hi I’m another Eurotunnel convert. I booked my travel insurance yesterday for me and OH who has diabetes, asthma and high BP. Was given the quote of £71 annual policy for couple cover. Which I think is very reasonable as had been quoted £200 +. Just need to get fit to fly note from Gp. The person I spoke to was very helpful and noted all existing conditons and said no need for medical questionaire. Off to Portugal in June.!!!

Hi
I just want to add my recent experience. I had a mx and ANC on 17/4 and am due to start chemo on 13/6. There is a delay as I had an infection (cleared now) and I have entered the Optima trial which takes 3 weeks to come back. My onc said this was he perfect opportunity to take my kids on a short break so we’re off to Majorca.
Now to travel insurance. I called insurePink (no answer) insurancewith (wouldn’t insure me) insure cancer (£600!) Then Eurotunnel.
They didn’t ask about pre- existing conditions so I offered that I had recently had surgery. Like others I was toldthey work on a ‘fit to travel’ basis, which at present I am. So myself, OH and two kids are now insured for Europe for a year £105 (includes skiing). I think it’s pretty obvious that unless I am ‘fit to travel’ I wouldn’t be getting on a plane and once my chemo starts that’ll probably be the case.
So here’s to some r and r before I climb aboard the chemo train
