I am just wondering if anyone knows if travel stockings are definately recommended for long flights.
Going to the States on Thur and i was all set to buy some travel stockings, until a friend said she had read that they are not sure they are beneficial to people.
When i had surgery i wore them (with 2 surgeries) had nothing but problems after with leg pain.
I am currently on tamoxifen and the side affects say DVT on the leaflet.
Its only a 5 and half hour flight.
What do others think?

Hi
My bcn said I should always wear them on any length of flight whilst I am on tamoxifen, so I wore them when I went to Spain last year. I was also told to take half an asprin for 3 days before the flight to stop clots.
Have a good holiday!!
Hi
I take tamoxifen and was a year from dx. I went to Miami in January 10 hour flight. My BCN recommended the stockings for me but no aspirin. Was stuck in the centre of the plane so couldnt get up to walk around very often but did the excercises every hour recommended by the airline.
The excercises are usually shown in one of the airlines mags on the back of seat. Alternate bum cheek clenching, foot rotations and heel toe movements I think.
Have a fabulous holiday and dont worry about it too much.

I wore them on a long haul flight to California in January. I got off the plane and for the first time ever my feet were not swollen. Well worth wearing them. I lost them and did not wear them on the way back. My shoes were so tight on arrival at Heathrow, it was painful.
If you have had a mastectomy I would also recommend you bandage your arm. I developed lymphodema the day after I landed in the US.
