Hi,
Does anyone know what the treatment is like at queens hospital in romford have had much luck with them at the moment. thanks
Hi Tracey
I had my Radiotherapy at the Queens, the staff in the radiotherapy department are wonderful.
I had some dealings with the nursing staff because of the burns, I have to say they were only so-so (very surley and not very friendly).
I didnt have my chemo there. I had that at the Hartswood in Brentwood, because I had private medical insurance.
Is Dr Sims your consultant? If so I found him to be very good, he could be a little abrupt at times but his knowledge is superb and attention to detail is second to none. If you do have any concerns about your treatment there then I would suggest you speak to him about it, he is very much on the side of the patients and will listen to you. I had a couple of niggles which he sorted out, and I know a friend of mine who had a lot of issues with some of the nursing staff and wrote an offical letter of complaint she got his full backing and he even offered to go with her to a meeting with the cheif exec, (which she is still waiting to be arranged)
Good luck with your treatment
Linda
Hi linda,
Thanks for your message my dr is a pain as i am waiting for core biopsy results and he is out of the country and won`t let anyone else tell me his name is ogedegbe which is a bit of a mouthful just hope that when hes back and i can get it sorted i can then know whats happening as at the moment its not very good have spoken to his secetary and she has said i will have to wait untill the end of september to get an appointment which i find just out of order as i may not find anything out untill i go there. just cant belive how they have treated me so far.

Tracy that is absolutely disgraceful. Each hospital has a department which deals only with comlaints. I suggest you ring them up first thing tomorrow morning and explain the anxiety and distress this situation is giving you. Show the person on the phone how worried and upset you are. Explain what has happened and tell them its inhumane being kept waiting for results like this. I think (if your hospital is like mine) they will sort something out this week once they realise what is going on. Good luck, and please make that call first thing tomorrow. Our department is called PALS, not sure if its the same for all hospitals, but get upset, do everything you can to get this sorted out as its disgraceful!!!
I was treated at Queens - came out Tuesday. The nursing staff were very good in there as were the facilities. Why don’t you try and see if his registrar can beof any assistance? I I know of Mr. Ogendegbe (he is not my consultant) but he has a very good reputation with patients and the medical pros. I have no complaints at all about my treatment so far, but I don’t want to go into further details on here.
If you would like to pm me I would be more than happy to help you if I can - where do you live?
Hi Tracy.
I waited nearly 3 weeks for my core’s so I am not surprised on that score…I actually called the secretary to move things along. What happens is your results come back from path lab then they are discussed at a meeting attended by various medics incl your consultant, before you are called in for your results, usually within a couple of days. You may have been called to Queens simply because your consultant sees his patients there rather than Victoria? As for waiting for medication on discharge, I know this can seem to take forever, but that’s pretty much the same procedure in all hospitals from what I have heard.
I had a mastectomy Tracy. I have to tell you it was nowhere near as scary as waiting for those bloody core results though - I know how anxious you are right now, and there’s nothing I can say to make you feel any easier. Right now you don’t even know if you need to go into hospital but if you do please believe me that it is not as bad as you think. I was paranoid about going into Queens and I toyed with going private but am so glad I didn’t. You will go onto a surgical ward (if you need surgery) and you will share with a max of 3 other women. You will have your own wet room/bathrom, tv/radio and be able to use your mobile as you wish. Even the food is ok! And when you are feeling up to it you can go downstairs to the cafe or a wander outside in the evening.
But don’t think about hospital now - you may not even need to go. If I can help you with anything else, just yell.
PS: Edited to say that you are quite within your rights to change your consultant at any time if you don’t feel comfortable with the one you have - but don’t be too rash, do some homework first and get some recommendations before doing so
