Treatment options help

Hi I am unsure how to post on the board but would like to also get your opinion, I have recently had 2 surgery’s , 2 small lumps removed - eostregen driven (not sure if that’s spelt right ) grade 2 ,margins cleared and 1 lymph node came back with traces in it - out of 14

Was always told this would be radio and hormone therapy, now chemo mentioned because of this one lymph node - I suffer from severe anxiety so as you can imagine this has me in a bad way - if they had have taken less lymph nodes and not found it , it would still be radio and hormone therapy, so what would have happened? . Is there anyone that’s been in my situation and still went for the radio and hormone and it been ok

Oncologist left me to make a decision but I’m scared

Hi bird25,

Thanks for posting. If you would like to get opinions of other women, you may want to post on the treatment section of the forums. Once we have replied we do lock these posts whereas the other areas remain open.

It’s understandable you are scared about making a treatment decision especially when the treatment plan has changed. You mention already suffering with severe anxiety.

Sometimes it’s clear when someone does or doesn’t need to have chemotherapy as part of their treatment for breast cancer. In other situations, like yours, the benefits may be less clear so often the oncologist will leave the decision to the patient. Some people will decide to go ahead with chemo and others decide not to.

It’s important your treatment team have given you enough information about the potential benefits and drawbacks of chemotherapy in your individual situation to help with your decision. Sometimes they use a decision aid such as NHS Predict.

We wonder if they said more about the traces of cancer in your lymph node they found. Our information about lymph node surgery might be helpful as it explains more about testing lymph nodes.

We also have information about hormone positive (oestrogen driven) breast cancer.

It sounds as if it would be helpful to talk to your treatment team again about his. You could contact your breast care nurse to talk this through and perhaps ask about more support with your anxiety. Your GP can also help with this.

We also have a range of other support services that might be useful at this time.

Do call our helpline if you would like to talk this through or have any further questions.
