Trial of Herceptin or Lapatinib

Hi, does anyone have any experience of this at all? I found out my results today that I have secondary BC in the lungs (and in chest glands) and have been offered Taxotere together with either Herceptin or Lapatinib on a trial. Unsure what to go for as not sure what is considered ‘best’.
Thanks.

Hi, sorry to hear your news. I am having Lapatinib with Capecitabine at the moment but not as part of a trial. I had Herceptin previously but it stopped working for me. The “good” thing about Lapatinib is that it crosses the blood brain barrier so maybe that’s something to consider. Also it is in tablet form rather than IV. I hope you reach a decision that’s right for you.

Best wishes. Gemini.

Hi

Hm, I wonder if it’s worth asking if you’d have access to either Herceptin or Lapatinib NOT on a trial, and then the other on a trial if/when the first failed? In other words, could you take the Herceptin now and then go onto a Lapatinib trial at some future date? I just ask, as I was given Taxotere with Herceptin - no mention of Lapatinib - and I’ve read that Lapatinib is good for women where Herceptin has been given but has stopped working.

Just a thought.

Hi
Thank you both for your comments - both valuable and of interest. I did go along to the Hospital armed with a few questions from the forum and from the internet and then made a decision to go on the trial and leave it up to fate as to which I get - either way I will be monitored even more than I would’ve been which at this stage for me I can only see to be a good thing.
I was told Lapatinib is not avail on the NHS currently so hence the trial although if Herceptin didn’t work then a case could be made for it.
Yes had read about the ‘brain’ part of it too - every little helps!
Thanks and regards to you both.
