trials of olabarib or AZD2281

Hi there, i am about to start on a drugs trial at the Royal Marsden and was just wondering if anyone else is on it or heard anything about it. The drug is called Olaparib or AZD2281. Had tons and tons of chemo but tumours keep growing during chemo but this trial is specific for BRCA2/1 which i have.
Due to start in couple of weeks but would love to here from anyone who has been on it.

Many thanks.

Leigh

Hi Leigh,

The Royal Marsden - South Kensington? There is so many different trials they offer to so many different patients I dont happen to know anything about your specific trial but my mum is undergoing one at the moment and has had very good results so just wanted to say I hope all goes well like it has for Mum so far and that you have postive news.

Love to all

Jenna

Hi Leigh
is it a parp inhibitor trial you are referring to? If so, there have been some very promising results for brca+ ladies but the results are a little inconsistent. I’m triple neg but brca neg so currently cannot access parp trials, although the marsden is apparently planning a parp trial for ladies like me who don’t have the gene mutation. All the very best with it

ps Jen great news about your mum! x

I too participated in this trial last year. I had some sucess, in that we saw some very minor reduction, and a period of stability. It was soon followed by further growth, so we had to stop, and I needed to revert to conventional chemo. There was also conjecture that the use of these inhibitors MAY (and I emphasisise, “may”), also help resensitise the patient to chemo. As yet this is unproven, but it would be a great additional bonus if this were the case. I found the drug perfectly tolerable-but the monitoring necessary at trials is hard work, and can be tiring. Good luck-and do ask if you have any specific questions with which you think I could help.

thank you all for your response. Started last week, feel pretty sick but so far so good. Best of luck to you guys.leigh
