hi pips

good news no nodes.

i had hormone pos bc at 37 then triple neg at 40 and recurrence 2 years later… i carry brca 2 gene mutation although not particularly related to brca 2 any more so than the general population, but about 70-80% of brca 1 breast cancers are TN (although about 70-80% of TNBC are not brca 1 carriers).

i found out i had the brca 2 gene after finishing chemo for tnbc. i have had a hysterectomy but not had double mastectomy.

my tnbc was IDC 19mm, grade 3. i had WLE, chemo and rads. chemo wasnt nice but coped with it… good luck with your treatment.

Hi Pips
I too am triple negative I have just had second diagnosis in opposite breast first time in 2011. I have also been referred for genetics testing as have had bilateral BC and both were grade 3 triple negative
I am starting chemo on Tuesday!!
Good luck

Hi Pips I had 22m tumour grade 3 Tn 14 years ago At age of 42. New primary Dec 2012 also Tn grade 3 48mm. Before surgery this time found out I have BRCA 1 so had bilateral mx.

Good news for you that no node involvement and also that it is grade 2. Tn tumours usually respond well to chemo. My second one was obliterated as had chemo before surgery and there was nothing left.
Chemo is doable and you will soon look back on all this. Wishing you well with your journey

Good Luck With starting your Treatment Tolliebelle.

THankyou for all your comments, the have been very helpfull.

Hi pips your dx is almost identical to mine-2cm,grade2,tn,no nodes. I had chemo and rads and have been clear ever since…I was dx in 2006

Thanks Horace that’s good to know… The Triple Neg aspect has really got me spooked

Thanks Pips Good luck with your treatment too Do you know when you are starting chemo? There are chemo threads each month so would be good for you to join one and get support from others going through it a t same time
Best Wishes

Hi Pips

It sounds like you and I have a similar diagnosis.  I am ERPR negative and am still waiting for the HER2 status, but I assume it is more likely to be TN than otherwise.  I had my WLE and SNB yesterday and the nodes came back clear.  It is a 2cm tumour and grade 2. .

I am wondering whether it is routine for TN patients to have chemo even when it is a small tumour and  their nodes are clear.  The fact that you are having chemo rather suggests that.  I would be interested to see what people say.  I am getting my results back on 11 Sept and will know for sure then, but am wondering how long this will all drag on.

Good luck with your chemo.

Hi pips, I was just diagnosed stage 1b triple neg . Diagnosed on my birthday, Aug 29. Lumpectomy sept 5, pathology results sept 18. Scanning this forum hoping to find someone with early stage that didn’t have to have chemo…no such luck…looks like its necessary regardless of stage. Really scared of chemo. Anyways, some small comfort knowing there is someone else out there like me. I live in a very small northern Canadian town…losing my privacy seems like the hardest thing right now. Good luck with your treatment, keep me posted.

Hi Kathy

I did a lot of research before I saw my surgeon for my results and established that nearly everyone who is triple negative has chemo, unless there are medical reasons why they shouldn’t.  Even when it is a very small tumour it is advised because we don’t have the hormone treatment which other patients have, like Tamoxifen, because our cancer is hormone negative.   The chemo gives us another weapon to fight it with…  It is a kind of insurance policy.   So I was ready to hear this when my surgeon said I needed to see the oncologist.

You will probably be starting your chemo in October like I am.  In which case, come and join us in our thread ‘October Optimists 2013’ whcih is in the Going through Treatment board, in the Chemotherapy Monthly threads.  We wil all be starting chemo in October and will support each other.

Look forward to seeing you there!

Anne

I had triple neg bc diagnosed in 2002 and was told, despite it being a stage 1 tumour with no lymph nodes involved, that I needed chemo. I really didn’t want to go through it and it wasn’t fun at all (I reacted exceptionally  badly to it I was told).  BUT it’s a relatively short period of your life  and eleven + years on it’s all a very distant memory and something I am very grateful I did do.

Best of luck with treatment.

hello everyone,

i’m a 33 years old doctor from Romania, diagnosed this year in March with breast cancer. at biopsy is was diagnosed as E+ P - and Her -. I got to 4 EC and 4 T but the tumor did not shrank and the disease kept going. Desperate las week I got Surgery in Vienna. The result came today as a triple negative breast cancer, rate of proliferation of 90% , 20 lymphnodes affected out of 23 and some question marks on my lungs. i received a new chem scheme for the next 3 months but I’m very scared that It will not work also. Any advice for me?
