Jane

Thanks for the msg, Yes- just got this result today. Had an op on 4th Sep. Was recommend to start chemo next month. wonder if chemo is my only way out or any other options that i might have…

thanks

Hiya Avonlea,

Unfortunatley the only options open to us that are triple negative is chemo and radiotherapy.
No other options for us im sorry to say.

I hope all goes well with your treatment.

Regards

Julie

Hey Avonlea,

Triple negs can respond very well well to chemo. But surgery is also important, so depending on what surgery you’ve had, radiotherapy may be the next step or chemo. If you’re worried about chemo (I was, but managed OK), you’ll find loads of support on this site. Or ring the helpline, they’re pretty good.

Best,

L.

Hi Avonlea I am triple negative too and yes chemo is the best option because, for us,there is nothing on offer after the initial treatment.Trip neg is supposed to respond well to chemo. You have had the op,next will be chemo and probably rads then sit back and be glad you have no more side effects while being sorry there is no further chemical support.I am 2 years from dx[this week] and doing fine so far.Let us know what chemo you are having.Love Vxx

thanks for the msgs. gald to know that Horace you are doing well:)

Wonder which type of chemo you had? May I know if the side effects are as bad as said?

thanks

Hi

I’m triple negative too and just finished radiotherapy this week. Chemo is doable and I found radiotherapy ok too.

Cancer research are doing all they can to find us ladies with triple neg a back up treatment after chemo/rads, fingers crossed they find it soon.

I feel very well and now trying to recover from the past 7 months and get back on with life.

Hope your treatment goes well.

Anita

Hi Avonlea,
I like you am tripke ng, so no drugs for me.
Had discussion with onc who gave me an additional 5% chance of being here in 10yrs due to cancer so decided to go ahead.
I was given the option of Tact2 trial and decided to give it a go. Started on 27th August on epirubicen fortnightly. I must admit it has been very copable without too may side effects. Main one being very weary.
My onc and chemo nurses have been very good so if you have any queries don’t be afraid to ask questions.
Good luck

Hi avomlea I had 4xFEC which I tolerated well, was only sick once each time in the evening of the day of the chemo. Then I had 4x Taxotere which was horrid but doable after all here I am:)

In my expereince chemotherpay has not been as bad as media images suggest. I have never been sick on chmeotherpay. I’ve had loads (getting on for 30 cycles in the past 5 years) and ‘fatigue’…mind numbing tiredness is for me the worse side effect.

Different people have different side effects. I don’t like the word ‘doable’ though its a popular one! I think chemotherapy is horrible…just horrible in a different way to maybe what you expect.

very best wishes

Jane

I too am triple negative and had 3 FEC (awful side effects) and 3 TAX that I found OK compared to many ladies. I finished my radiotherapy in May and have just had my annual mammogram and am waiting for results (scary time). Being triple negative though, I now feel I have no safetynet as unable to have tamoxifen. Crossing fingers that I will be OK. Going on a med cruise with Royal Caribbean tomorrow with my teenage son and wonderful Mum who looked after me during my worst times. It makes you want to live life to the full while you can.
Best wishes to you.

Jane I use the word doable to mean that however bad we feel we usually complete the course and arrive back at some sort of normality.Doable to me = it can be done by ordinary, frightened women who want to have some control of their illness and who feel that by coping with some or all of a course of chemotherapy they have done something to help push the disease a little further away. The word is a cliche,a little facile,it slips out easily when we try to tell a newbie what its like.It is a little different for everyone but for most it can be endured-it will be ‘doable’.All the very best,Love Vxx

Hi Avonlea

I’m triple negative as well, I was told just 10 to 15% of breast cancers are trip neg, so we are the elite! Just finished three solid weeks of radiotherapy. Had six lots of TAC chemo first not nice but doable and they really look after you. For any side effects there are many ways of combating them. Then I had a bilateral mastectomy and right axillary clearance (five nodes out of 19 affected), and as I said I had my last radiotherapy session on Tuesday last. There is not a lot of information out there about triple neg, as it was only recognised a few years ago but researchers are working on it and there is some good information on some American Medical sites if you go searching. Some people don’t want to know but I wanted to have all the information, good and bad, that I could get. As has been said trip neg responds really well to chemo, my tumour disappeared after three lots but they still gave me the other three!
Good luck and chin up there are a lot of us out here to give you all the support and advice you might need.
Lots of love and best wishes Nonny xxxxx

and yes horace is right about doable and what it means…and the piont is that none of us is specially brave or heroic in doing chemo…yet in away we each are…

Jane

Hi I am part of the elite Triple Negative Club too - dx March 07. Mine was not operable but i had six cycles of AC chemo, and I am currently having 25 full breast rads followed by 8 boosters. Nine down 24 to go (far better than chemo!. At the end of the day the hospital will do all they can to make the chemo etc as easy as possible but tell them if you have any problems cos they don’t want you to suffer anymore than you have to. My Onc says there are a number of chemo options and we tend to respond well to chemo compared to other types of breast cancer. If you research Triple Neg you will find a lot of doom and gloom but I am sure thats many due to lack of info compared to other types. If you are unsure there are lots of ladies on here that can point you in the right direction
Take Care

Helen

Thanks Helen and Nonny- yes guess we are so special- to add my elite status- i was told women at my age (31) only account for 1% of the newly dx… well there you go.

I am just wondering what is the cause of it really. I am the most healthy eater among people i know. I donot drink, smoke, no other bad habit. Go to swimming once a week or once other week. No family history, not African, not jewrish. Body BMI between 20-22. I could not think about any cause of BC…

However I did get my period before 12, no children, not married. Stressful job- travel a lot. But that does not mean i have to have BC?? Did have some injury on my breast almost 2 years ago, did go through a very bad break up a year ago… could not help thinking what could be the cause…

In that case i could try to prevent it. Really for ladies with Homome or HER2 positive they could try to talk drugs to help and in terms of us- i wonder if there is any similarties in terms of life style… so we could find out what is the cause?
Really try to compare and see what ever happened could be a reason…

thanks and much love

I was 62,a mother of 2,overweight but did start periods on 12th birthday.I am not a member of any ethnic minority. Was told trip neg more common in younger women.
love Valx

I am 56, 3 children, didn’t start periods early, never smoked, drink occassionally (sometimes too much), slightly overweight. No ethnic minority connection or anyone in family with bc. Triple neg tho.
Had very stressful job for few yeras. otherwise no ideas
best wishes

dear jane Ra
this is my first posting but i have read almost all of yours over the past couple of years. I am too triple negative 4 years exactly since my mastectomy, grade 3 no nynph involment no chemo no rads no anything so have been feeling very lonely except for reading your postings, many many thamks. p s Ireally have no faith in my hospital have loads of questions but after a quick feel under the arm pit and around the collar bone i am dismissed in clinic and feel like a naughty school girl if I attempt to dare slow up the clinic by asking a question. have not seen my consultant only locum for 3 years so have not got a relationship with anyone in clinic. feel let down but thank god for your input on this site it has saved my sanity. many many thanks
