Hi Cecelia
I had twinges and some times a sharp pain whilst I was undergoing rad treatment. The nurses said this was not uncommon. My oncologist explained to me that because the op had cut through some of the nerves they were busily trying to reattach themselves which sometimes causes this type of pain. I still have the occasional painful twinge and my rads finished on 3/12/07 but the oncologist did say that it can take anywhere from 6mths to a year for these things to settle in some people.
Hope this helps. If your still in doubt though speak to your bc nurse.

Thanks Caz, that puts my mind at ease.

Today I had my 26th of 29 sessions and I also experience short, sharp pains… they go away as quickly as they appear. My BCN had forewarned me about them, so I’ve not worried about them as they’re obviously quite “par for the course”… Strangely enough, they’ve been worse today and this was the first zap targetted on the wound area, whereas the previous 25 were to the whole breast… Nearly there… whew!

Hi AliS.
Glad your nearing the end of you rads. Well done. Hope your skins holding up. The area that’s being zapped will probably become quite red and aggressive looking in about 10 days-2wks time so keep creaming. I still get the odd pain and as you say it short and sharp. Some days now I can actually go through the day without anything and it pretty much feels like life is getting back to some normality.
Sorry pressed the wrong button. Meant to end by saying Good luck and best wishes Caz x
Thanks all, the twinges are weird, very few and far between but they make me jump! The area being treated is very sore and red looking now. A big red square. I have gel pads to put on so will do that and the Aloe Vera Lotion helps.
Good luck to all of you.
