unbearable itching after radiotherapy

Hey Tralala

I’m now 2 years after rads so it all seems a bit in the dim and distant past for me. I agree that the contradictory advice is so so confusing. I am sure you’ve read through this thread and others, sometimes it helps to try things others have found worked for them as the medical professionals just tell you what they’ve been told and not from experience.

I’m not sure about wet/dry/covered/ uncovered I’m afraid but I would say keep it scrupulously clean and get some antibiotics before the weekend as a just in case (my doc told me to keep some in stock all the time).

We went on holiday immediately after I finished rads and I was terrified of getting an infection whilst away from home.

Hope it settles soon x

I finished my radiation treatment a month ago. I had 16 treatments. I’m still experiencing itching and soreness. I was using lotions with no scent or dyes. One is called My Girls purchased on Amazon and Eucerin Intensive Repair. I also used Aquaphor which made me itch more. The nurse suggested not putting anything on it to see if it will help. I’ve been trying without since Friday and still itching. My skin is discolored tan looking and my nipple is still tender and sore at times. I go back to doctor in October so hopefully things will ease up. Good luck to you and hope you start feeling better.

Hi It is me again. All is ok. The terrible itching stopped after 2 weeks ie last week of the 15 rads and the week after that. It just comes and goes now. I decided to leave the itchy area alone and it all died down, more or less.No broken skin phew! It is very dry and a bit lumpy in the area next to the bigger itchy bit ( which is just a scab now) I got some itching and soreness under the treated breast area but as this is the scar area from the masectomy I assume this is ok as they want to concentrate the beam on the bed of the tumour don’t they?

Just a bit tender but not too bad. I see the Clinical Onocologist next week so fingers crossed
