Unsure about Letrozole

Hello all, so I recently stated on tamoxifen. The first few weeks were fine, but that last few days I’ve had terrible sweats. The doctor prescribed fluxotine a while back that I didn’t want to take but I’ve decided to give it a go as this is unbearable.

Anyway, I’m 47 and my cancer is high hormone related so they want to give me injections and put me on Letrozole. I’m worried about the side effects. I’ve already got finger and joint pain.

Can anyone offer any advice, should I move to Letrozole or challenge it? I want to manage my risk but was also told I’d be on tamoxifen so I don’t know. I’ll be on abemcyclib too…

Hi jnra
Im sorry you’re having such a tough time. I am on Letrozole and get some joint pains at night fingers, ankles wrists but usually wears off once moving again in the morning. I know it can affect us all differently
Sorry i haven’t got any experience of the other medications you’re taking but hope you get the best one for you that minimises the side effects. x

Hi, I’m on letrozole, started taking it 4 weeks ago and have surgery planned next week. I’ve been ok, I decided to take it in the morning. I’ve suffered previously at night with menopause symptoms and joint pains whilst lying in bed, I’m probably more conscious of them. So far, I’ve been ok on it. I’ve had Sun Pharma and Accord, I asked my pharmacist to keep me on these brands. There’s another thread in the forum on letrozole so might be worth searching. Good luck x

Thank you both, I’m just concerned that going in this drug is going to turn me into an old lady :upside_down_face: but if you’re both managing okay, then that’s a positive!

I’ll keep a note of those brands for sure! Thank you

Letrozole has damaged my hands and my joints. Challenge it! I have no quality of life right now. They stopped the letrozole I’m in my third week of no hormone therapy. My percentages was very low for return. It was benign and so tiny, did not travel and my lymph nodes are perfect. I took radiation and started Anastrozole my whole body ached and joints. Insomnia and headaches were awful. Changed to letrozole now my hands are stiff, aches, and I can hardly do anything. Can’t drive, can hardly clean my house or body. The pain is the worse. I been off letrozole for 3 weeks. I have a decision to make. My quality of life is gone. Please get more research and challenge it. I’m living in pain still. Dr put me on prednisone to decrease the swelling for my hands got inflamed and my hands were so swollen and my joints are awful. Prayers going up for you.

I was on Tomixifan for the first few years of treatment then felt it was blowing me up weightwise - had a chat with specialist and he put me on Letrozole.
Another find in my other boob !!
Still on letrozole - specialist basically said after i complained about more weight gain “you may be fat but you are still alive”
Well , how can uou argue with that ??

I am sorry you are going through this. I wanted to offer something, a book by dr. V. Longo called The Longevity Diet. It is designed for cancer patients and it does help weight-loss even while on these drugs. If open to reading, dr. Gregor How Not To Die diet and dr. W. Li How To Beat Disease diet. All targeting specific needs and fight cancer recurrence, weight, and especially cardiovascular health as these drugs destroy that too.
Wish you well.

Thanks for the book recommendation. I have ordered! I’m definitely more conscious now about what I put in my body, but I’m struggling with alcohol. I love going out with my friends or partner and having a few drinks and I really don’t want to have to give that up. I’ve cut down but it does worry me :face_holding_back_tears:
