Hello all, I hope you are as well as can be and wonder if you can give me any advice. I had bc. grade 3 in 2007. Had left mastectomy, axillary clearance and 5/20 nodes were grade 3. Couldn’t have chemo as caught infection after one dose - by time I recovered it was too late. Anyway, had radiotherapy which caused pneumonia and damage to left lung, permanent lymphodema and burn to site. Then had 1 year on Herceptin. I’m still here and very grateful. However, I constantly suffer from back pain and just these few days have started to get stabbing pain in operated site which takes me by surprise as its very painful. My shoulder has been painful too so I am going to rest today and hope things settle. I have also had a stupid cough - quite petty at times, but went to gp and was given omeprazole as keep bringing up phlegm. Does anyone else suffer these stabbing pains long after surgery (2007) and can anyone advise me the best way forward. God bless you all and Happy New Year, am grateful for your time and wish you all well.
Should you ask your GP to refer you for further investigation?
I haven’t had anything so dramatic, but I have occasional, erratic twinges in the area of a DCIS from two years ago, which I am given to understand is normal healing. These twinges are stabbing in nature but short and bearable, if that makes sense. I still think you should ask about further investigation to make sure whether it is residual pain or not.
Thank you CherylT for taking the time - yes I used to get those pains in the early days. I must admit though, didn’t think I should be getting them now. Anyway, I’ll rest today and perhaps mention it during my mammogram on Tuesday. I often feel such a nuisance asking advice, especially when nothing is found but pain is pain and I know I feel it. I hope you are doing well girl and wish you all the best. Ann
Hi Ann
maybe you could call your BCN and get an appt to see her, if she is worried she will be able to arrange for you to see onc or surgeon to help put your mind at rest.
IfI have anything concerning that area I always by pass my GP and go staright to BCN, you should have open access to her.
It could be something simple like scar tissue but I believe its better to be safe than sorry,
Sorry I cannot be of more assistance

Long-term pain is not good for mental or physical health, and we all need all the health we can hold on to in our circumstances. If you don’t say, they can’t help you, and if this is a natural result that will ease in time, you will have one less thing to worry about.
Best wishes
Cheryl
Can’t really offer any advice other than what’s already been said, but hoping that your BCN or GP can advise.
Thinking of you.
