Update on how anyone's doing following recon with Strattice

Sorry, posted on wrong topic initially.

There have been a few comments posted on the forums from ladies who have had reconstruction using Strattice. I would be interested to know how you are all getting on, particularly from anyone who had radiotherapy, as I have been offerred this op and still trying to make my mind up.

Thanks

hi there
I had radio therapy in Feb2009 and the strattice in aug 2010.

I would say that the strattice is fantastic, I have healed really well, and back to work in 7 weeks after a double mx and recon.

I do have an issue though in that the expander is in fact leaking, so that will need to be replaced, but this is nothing to do with the strattice.

I am happy to answer any questions you may have/

Thanks

Hi
I had a strattice skin saving mastectomy with expander implant in Feb followed inJune /July by five weeks of radiotherapy. THough the skin did get some nasty sores during the radiotherapy they healed quickly and the skin is fine now.
If you are going for an implant reconstruction and are offered strattice then I would recommend it, especially if you have to have radiotherapy.
Hope this helps?

Hello Ladies
Apologies that it has taken me so long to respond to your comments but I haven’t been on this site for some time now. I am really pleased to hear that you would recommend the strattice. I have just received my date to have this op in January so it’s very reassuring to know that you are happy with your results, particularly after having radiotherapy. I’ve been on a real rollercoaster ride trying to decide about which op to go for and even whether to bother at all (it’s 12 years since my mx and radiotherapy). In the end I’ve just decided to leave it to the experts and follow the consultant’s recommendation.

Wish me luck!
