Hi everyone, I was at the GP yesterday with a hard lump in my breast, she advised that she was sending me as an urgent referral. He was also concerned about an enlarged vein in my chest? I’ve been told I need to wait up to 4 weeks for the appointment…how did you cope waiting? Thanks xxx
Hi Suzie,
I am in a very similar boat. I saw my GP last Thursday for breast and armpit pain and a lump. I was also urgently referred, but was told I would be seen within two weeks. I received a letter from the hospital yesterday telling me my appintment for the breast clinic is next Wednesday. Four weeks is a relatively long time for an ‘urgent appointment’… Just playing a waiting game now! Can’t give you much advice, but can only say I am in the same boat and can totally understand your anxieties.
Good luck, and hugs! <3 x
Hi Hannah, thanks for replying, I feel I can’t talk to family or friends about how I feel as I’m always the positive one! 4 weeks is a long time to wait especially for an urgent referral! Please keep in touch & let me know how you get on ? hugs xxx
Hi Hannah, thanks for replying ?. 4 weeks is a long time to wait especially for an urgent referral! I’m putting on a brave face to everyone so it’s good to talk to people on here. Keep in touch & let me know how you get on next week. ? Hugs xxx
Hi Suzie and welcome to the BCC forums, I am sorry to read that you have this worry
Along with the support you have found here, our helpliners are on hand with support and a listening ear so please feel free to call and talk your concerns through, lines are open 9-5 weekdays and 10-2 Saturdays on 0808 800 6000
I am posting a link to the BCC information about referral to a breast clinic and the guidelines state that an urgent referral should be within 2 weeks so it may be worth contacting your GP surgery to clarify this or discussing this with our helpliners :

Take care

Thanks Lucy ? x
Hi Suzie,
I thought urgent referrals were within 2 weeks, maybe worth a call to your GP surgery to check their wording, or failing that the clinic incase you were wrongly allocated ?
Fingers crossed for you,
LL xx
Hiya, i received my appointment on Monday, the hospital sent the letter the day after I saw the GP! It’s next Wednesday so that’s within the 2 week guideline. My hubby had called the hospital and queried the 4 weeks and they confirmed that at the moment it can be up to that however the referral goes to a consultant who advises the date?? Not long to wait now, putting a brave face on for friends & family. How are you? xxx
It sounds like a tough 15 months, how did you discover you might have BC? I’ve not admitted this to my family & friends but the lump is hard & not moveable, I don’t have a good feeling about it although still trying to remain positive! From what I’ve read you can pretty much tell the result by the radiologist face. Hope you are well and thanks for being there for us waiting on the appointments xxx
That’s good you went for the screening, I don’t ever check myself, however I was lying on the couch and my bra was irritating me so I went to move it…found the lump straight away a bit like a marble size, from now on I’ll definately check and all my friends do too now. Xxx
