vertigo and chemo

Hello all

Before I started this horrible road I suffered with vertigo which I could manager myself ok except for the odd bad attack.

I had my first chemo last Tuesday and not to bad except for the 5th day where I was very tired and slept for most of the day I also had a bit of a fuzzy head for the first few days.

Today I seem to have a bit more energy but a fuzzy head again which feels a bit like a vertigo head so I dont know if its the se’s or vertigo.
Do anyone who has ever suffered with this know if the chemo started their vertigo off again.

Many thanks Sue

Hi Sue, i’ve had a couple of episodes of vertigo, i had one bad one in Jan this year where i could hardly get out of bed for 4 days. It was horrendous. I had my first chemo on the 16th sept so just before yours & day 5 was my worst day for SE’s but i didnt get fuzzy head just tiredness. I’m praying that it doesn’t start it off again & i can certainly sympathise with u.

Hi hjv and vodka girl.

Chemo has brought on dizzyness for me but not too bad. I have had labarynthitis (inner ear disruption) in the past so have just assumed that has flared a bit. Seems to be improving as the days go on.

Hope it settles down for you, it makes me feel queasy as well.

Hi Southernlucy
I have felt a bit queasy today so I think it might be the vertigo that has been affected hopefully it will settle down again soon.xx

Hi, I have never had vertigo until chemo. I have a light headedness when I have been sat down for a while and when I stand up my head spins and my ears are pounding. I am assuming it is chemo as it is all new to me. I am told we lose the hairs in our ears which aid balance etc so am assuming mine were the first to go. it is bearable most of the time, but sometimes i have to really concentrate on staying upright!

While i am being given chemo and for about 6 days after i feel light headed like a feeling that you are there but you are not.Sometimes i feel scared to walk around as i feel like i will pass out i feel like i am swaying .I think its the most horrible feeling ever and its the one SE which makes me dread my chemo everytime!!!

Thanks everyone for your comments.

Lisha I know exactly how you feel its not very nice,
I rang my chemo suite today to ask if I could take the medication I would normally take for vertigo, they said I could and it has improved it a bit.

I just want to feel normal again but at the moment I’m scared to go out on my own as I dont feel safe walking about I’m 8days post 1st fec so with the se’s and vertigo I’m feeling a bit sorry for myself.

Sorry for the rant but II feel better for it
Hope you all have a good day

Sue xx

Hi - I was interested to read these comments. I suffered from ‘Benign Positional Vertigo’ during chemo. Never had it previously and never had it since (I finished chemo 18 months ago). Neither the oncologist or GP thought there was any connection but maybe there was. Anyway, if it’s any comsolation, it did pass once I was through chemo so I do hope that for others, who are experiencing this now, do at least find it goes away soon.

Best wishes to you all.

Hello,
I hope you are all feeling ok on this dizzy thread.
I am sure chemo gave me vertigo - it was connected to feeling nauseaus. I felt soo sick after my 3rd FEC that the room was totally spinning. Is that vertigo? It was pretty gross but it passed quite fast with some stronger anti emetics. I haven’t really suffered with dizzyness or vertigo before this treatment - so I blame it wholeheartedly and with relish!

Now I’m on Tax I dont have nausea in nearly the same way and thus no spinning out.

I hope everyone feels OK and has an upright day!!

Best wishes to all,
Cannoliwings X

Hello cannoliwings

Yes you can feel sicky with vertigo and everything spins even when your lying in bed its horrible,it can also give you a hissing noise in your ears which is what i have also got, at the moment I dont know which is the worse the se’s I had for the first few days or this damn vertigo

The vertigo can last for days as I’ve experienced in the past before I even had bc.
all the best

How are u feeling now Vodkagirl, has the dizziness gone? I really hope so, a bad attack of vertigo has got to be one of the worst, most debilitating conditions, it really is such a hideous feeling, i hope it passes soon for u & anyone else suffering from it.x

Hi HJV

It has passed now and I’m feeling a lot better in myself it is a horrible thing to suffer with, my only concern now is I dont get it after every fec I’m going to speak to my onc when I have my next treatment because I dont think cope with it.

Hope you are doing ok have a good weekend.x
