Very happy today............

I had my annual check up an mammo results this morning and everything was fine. Must admit I was a bit panicky getting ready for the hospital and I was running slightly late which didn’t help my frame of mind. It was a new Consultant I hadn’t seen before but he was really very kind and put me right at ease. He told me he had read through all my notes and he was very sorry to read of the way I had got the diagnosis (told I just had a fibroid, then they found the tumour hidden under it when I had it removed). It can be quite traumatic getting a new doctor in all of this, but this man was very attentive and took his time.

It was such a pleasant appointment that I was focused enough to go Christmas shopping afterwards and naughty enough to treat myself to 3 tops, a cardigan and 2 nice belts! A girl has to shop lol.

Great news cherub, its great when we feel at ease with the Dr.
Retail therapy…we should get it on the NHS!

Well done Cherub. Good news. I get in a terrible state before check ups and mammos. I don’t know why because I would be more worried if I didnt have them. I have a yearly check up then get app for mammo a few weeks later then wait a few weeks for results. Had my latest mammo on Thursday so am crossing my fingers.

Good news cherub and even better you were able to fit in some retail therapy.

I had pretty much assumed that the mammo was OK as it was done about 4 or 5 weeks ago and I know if there is anything suspicious they contact you to get you in within the week. Having said that, I’ve not really slept all that great since the weekend and I didn’t really sleep last night at all. I’d like to put my feet up at the weekend, but OH needs a hand with finishing work projects and I’ve got gifts to wrap which have to be posted abroad asap.

No rest for the wicked as they say, I’ve got some Soave in so I’ll make the wrapping and card writing go with a swing  I was also very tempted to buy a one of those disco ball lights today. We always have a little dance in our kitchen at Christmas, just me and him!

Cherub, thats lovely news - your new consultant sounds lovely.
Enjoy the Soave, persuade that man to have a premature dance when the works done and the gifts are wrapped - relax and enjoy!

Thats lovely news Cherub. I too would have shopped to celebrate, we deserve that at least.

As a relative newby, I was diagnosed in Aug WLE/SNB grade 2 mixed tumour, rads and Arimidex, I wonder if you could tell me when I can expect another mammogram. I have appt with the surgeon in March (6 months post op) is it then or will it be another 6 months on from that? I also see the oncology dr in a month or so as a follow-up to the rads.

Hi Chris,
I was diagnosed in October 2006 and had my first mammo at the end of December 2007, so it was about 14 months. This was because they were running late due to the number of women referred via the mobile screening programme here. At the time I was concerned so I rang up and they told me the surgeons and oncologists put back all the patients they weren’t expecting to find any problems in, I fell into that category as I was on Herceptin at the time. Thankfully everything is back on track now as they took on another surgeon and another breast nurse, so it’s now every 12 months.
