Very small lump

Very small lump

Very small lump Not panicing (though not totally true!), but I’ve just found a very small hard lump (about the size of a small grain of rice) under the skin about 2 cms above the scar of my prophylactic mastectomy site (i.e. bc was otherside). Originally thought it was just a blimp on the rib, but it moves with the skin and therefore it’s in the tissue itself.

If anyone can come up with an innocent explanation, feel free to let me know!

Has anyone had a very small lump found on mastectomy site to tell me what happened next? I’m not sure whether they operate to remove it and check from there or what? I suspect that it might be a bit too small to show up on any scans or x-rays.

Was even wondering whether I should leave it to see if it goes away or go to GP, but realise that just not what I would advise anyone else to do, so will ring BCN tomorrow…strange how we react differently when it’s ourselves.

Thanks
Roberta

I had a small lump about l cm. from the mastectomy site and they removed it with just freezing in the outpatient dept. at the hospital. It was then biopsied and found to be cancer so I am too begin radiation quite soon. Because it was quite small the surgeon referred to it a a “blip in the road” so I will do the radiation and hopefully move on again with my life.

Roberta,

I had a small lump very similar to what you are describing that appeared on my reconstructed breast. I was immediately seen by the consultant and sent for an ultrasound guided biopsy and it did show up on the ultrasound. It turned out to be nothing more than a collection of fluid and they aspirated it there and then.

Of course you should contact your BCN but I know exactly what you mean, sometimes it feels that ignorance is bliss!

Let me know how you get on.

Thanks for the replies,

BCN has taken this seriously and got me in as emergency tomorrow (all clinics full) to be seen by an as yet unknown person who will have to their lunch time cut short! Can’t complain about waiting.

Will update when I know more. Have to suspect it will have to come out whatever.

calling Roberta Hi there,I found exactly same lump as you…well it was more like a rock hard pea.it was on the sine of the original scar and the tested it immediately which was so quick. We had the results caner within 40mins.Now ive finished my doses of Rads and the lump was removed. So now on tamoxifen and feeling like you…need to travel and enjoy my life again! You sound like you are full of life & its just the dreaded BC thats popping up to hold you back.Im now 51,(noticed that you are 52) but dont feel it,hope you can keep in contact.,will be thinking of you.Debz

Thank you Debz I sorry not to have replied earlier, it’s just that I’m totally drained with various things at the moment and don’t like posting when I’m so low.
Anyway, thanks for perceiving me as full of life, don’t feel it just now (but maybe it will return at some point!).

I do try to get on with life and want to do more travelling but as you’ve said, BC has a habit of tripping me up whenever I try to move on… not feeling sorry for myself, just a fact as I was supposed to be planning a trip to see a friend of mine in Bali after Xmas. Glad that things are back on the up for you though.

To update…the appt itself resulted in an ultrasound on Weds to see if it’s bc or a ‘fat necrosis’. They think it’s more likely to be the latter, but that will require a FNA or removal to check one way or the other. So will have to wait for further follow up appt a week later, I’ve been told.

I do sooooo hate waiting (such a waste of time) and just wish that I could have got it sorted as quickly as you managed to have done (though for obvious reasons with a different result!).

Roberta

Out of here Well it turns out to be a case of fat necrosis after all. Had ultrasound and it was aspirated. Black hole on ultrasound just disappeared, very satisfying!

Now just to climb out of my own black hole, but this is a big leg up and I can see the rim now.

So thank you all and for the people who still qualify for this forum, I wish you well.
