vinorelbine and carboplatin what was the result?

I am interested to know anyone’s experience of taking the two chemos together intravenously.
I was diagonosed with breast cancer in 2005, had chemo, surgery, chemo and radiotherapy. Discovered a regional recurrence 6 months ago. Letrozole and Capecitabine have been unsuccessful?
good or bad need to know your experience
thanks

Hi there

I also have a regional recurrence diagnosed in April 2007.

I had vinorilbine and capecitibine together for 6 cycles, then capecitibine alone for a further three cycles, then carboplatin and gemzar combined for 6 cycles. (so I’ve had the same drugs but in different combo to you. er- and pr- so hormonals no good for me.)

For me, vinorilbine and cap. reduced the tumours but they then grew on the cap. alone. The 6 cycles of carboplatin and gem. kept tumours stable for the duration. I am on a chemo break at moment though I think lumps (which I can feel) are growing again. But at last CT scan still had no evidence of distant mets which means the chemos may have been doing something.

I think for me vinorilbine probably ‘worked’ ‘better’ than the other three.

As far as side effects: I got progressively tireder on carbo and vinorilbine. Lost my hair on carbo and gemzar though this is ‘rare’. In the scheme of things neither chemo as bad as AC or taxotere, but I have found the build up of fatigue very debilitating.

Relativey few of us with ‘just’ regional recurrence and quite a lonely world I find, so hope we can swap experiences.

very best wishes

Jane
