Vinorelbine & hair......

Hiya all,

I wondered if anyone can tell me if this chemo makes your hair fall out?
I have been given a leaflet about this chemo that says hair loss is rare but when I have googled it hair loss is listed as one of the side effects.

I am about to start this chemo on Monday after 5 months of Taxol/Gemcitabine which worked for me we know up to the scan I had after my 3rd cycle but then the scan after 6th cycle showed my liver mets had grown.
I finished the last chemo about 5 weeks ago and my hair is starting to grow back as are some of my eyelashes (whoo hoo!). Im hoping that its all not gonna fall out again…

Regards

Hi Julie,

I haven’t had this one but other women I know have suffered hair thinning but not complete loss on vinorelbine. I do sympathise with you - the second time my hair went was just as it was growing back after EC chemo, then they put me on Taxol. Taxol only kept me stable, the little liver b*****s started growing almost immediately I stopped it. Good luck with hair and Vin.

Hello Julie,

I have just finished my 5th cycle of Vinorelbine and I have not lost my hair. I do get a bit more than the norm hair in my comb and some comes out when I wash it but nothing like the hair loss I have previously experienced with other chemotherapy. I was concerned that I was losing a fair bit at one point and my onc nurse had a rummage and said all looked fine. I have had my hair cut and coloured (well a ‘gloss’ which does not use amonia apparently) with the ok of my onc team whilst on this chemo and my fears of waking up the next morning with newly coloured hair lying on my pillow was not realised.

I found it hard to believe at first that I could have chemo without losing my hair but have been pleased to have hung onto mine so far. My onc said that he has not known a patient to lose their hair on this chemo.

I hope this is the case for you as of course we are all different. I remember the feeling of euphoria when all hair started to regrow and can imagine that you really don’t want ot lose it again so soon.

Wishing you well (or as well as can be) for your chemotherapy, Julie.

Take care,

Angee xx

I kept my hair on vinorilbine though it thinned a bit. I did then subsequnetly lose it on carboplatin and gemzar which are also supposed to be chemos that you don’t lose hair on…I rcekon the vinorilbne didin’t help beacuse my hair was in dreadful condition.

Have lost it again on taxol.

Good luck with vinorilbine.
