Vitamins

I have read there are certain things that you should not take while on chemo… soooo I didn’t take my vitamins I had bought because I wondered if some of the things would work against the chemo…(maybe I am worrying too much) My son said he thinks I should be on a good multi-vitamin… any suggestions??.. I will ask the oncologist when I see him too. Have any of you been told what to take or not to take?

thanks in advance for any advice!

Hello LeeUK

I was taking B complex, E, C and Lipoic Acid tablets in the run-up to chemo. On the day of my first chemo appointment, I took them all in and asked my onc which were ok (he said they were all ok to take and it was a good idea). So the best thing is to ask your onc, but take the packets in so he or she can see exactly what they contain. I believe the vitamins have made me stronger and better able to resist the side effects, though as there is no control experiment that’s just guesswork!

Hi Lee,

My onc is a statistics and figures guy and I asked the same question on my first visit and he flatly said that there is no point taking vitamins as they dont help at all. He said as long as I ate a good healthy balanced diet that was sufficient.

All docs are different so ask yours he may recommend something.
