My 80 year old mum was diagnosed with Grade 2 IDC last Wednesday in one breast . Three lumps - 18mm, 7mm and 6 mm. They have said due to the multiple lumps she will need a masectomy and have given her a date of 27th March - 8 weeks away. This sounds a really long wait ? Is this normal ? I’m so worried that it will have spread in the mean time . Currently it is not in lymph nodes according to the ultrasound . Thank you for any advice
Hi, just thought I’d give you a bit of reassurance. I too need a Mastectomy after having a recurrence of Lobular breast cancer. I’m having my mastectomy this Wednesday, I have waited since officially the 6th December, although I was told on the 26th November it is almost certainly cancer and will mean a mastectomy.
It is such a long wait and I feel for you and your mum. I did find after a week, I kind of settled down and managed to put it to the back of my mind for a bit.
I wish your mum luck going forward and hope any results afterwards are positive for her. Take care. Your mum is lucky to have you ![]()
I was 9 weeks from diagnosis to mastectomy. They got all mine ![]()
Hi kellyb1
Sorry about your Mum. It’s good news that everything has been found and it’s being dealt with. The waiting is always a worry, but it will have taken years for the cancer to appear. I remember my surgeon telling me that they try to get surgery done within 12 weeks and there is no danger of anything progressing before treatment starts. I had my mastectomy at 11 weeks and I did have the same worries as you, but everything was fine. If it goes beyond that perhaps you could start asking questions.
All the best for your Mum’s treatment.
