waiting for FNA results...

hello everyone, this is the first time I’ve posted here, because it’s only now that the possibility seems to be even existing to me!

I’m 20, have been having galactorrhoea which led to me getting a referral to the Breast Clinic, but also found a lump. the galactorrhoea is down to medication that I’m on, hurrah! but although the ultrasound I had today was inconclusive, I then had to have FNA as the doctor who saw me said that there definitely was something. I have to wait 2 weeks(!) for the results, and I’m getting worried…

I guess I’m just looking to hear from anyone who’s been in this situation, and how it turned out for you? also, is FNA often used on patients who don’t have suspicious symptoms?

thanks everyone

Hi Georgia

Sorry you ar having this worry… Glad the glactorrhoea turned out to be caused by meds.

FNAs aren’t carried out so often as it doesn’t give such good results as a biopsy. FNAs are usually a quick test and often they can process it the same day… Even. Biopsy would normally only take a week for results… I suspect that if they are waiting for to week that they are not particularly concerned otherwise they would have Done a Biopsy and called you back a bit sooner.

Fingers crossed that it’s nothing to worry about but we are all here to support you if you need us… The helpline is available using the day if you nee to speak to somebody they can be very helpful.

Take care

Thanks Lulu, that’s interesting to hear actually, that you usually get the result quicker than that, maybe it’s because the NHS is being a bit crap and has a backlog or something? From what the doctor said, it sounded like FNAs were the usual procedure so that’s also interesting to hear.

Fingers crossed indeed!

Georgie
