Waiting for HER2 results

Hi all,

I had surgery on 26th November and the main part of my pathology report is dated 2nd December with ER/PR and HER to follow. The ER/PR results were back when I saw the surgeon on 4th December but when I saw the onc this week he said that there was still no HER2 result in and seemed to think it might not even be done yet. He also didn’t seem particularly surprised at this although did say he’d chase it up.

I was rather surprised by this. Anyone else had this sort of a wait?

Hi Eliza

My surgery was 17th March last year. I got er/pr results 10 days later. I was told the her2 result would be longer cos they have to get a batch together before they can send them for testing. I ended up having 4 wks of rads and still had to wait a further 2 wks after this before I got my her2 result. It was about 10 wks after surgery!!

Thanks, Lolly. Sounds like it is standard then. I didn’t realise they have to send a batch at once. I’m now waiting for appointment for rads planning.

Well, I finished 4 weeks of rads on Friday and got the HER2 (negative) result over the phone this morning. So that was 14.5 weeks from surgery to result.

I’m amazed at the differet timescales that operate in differnt parts of the country. Think I’m very lucky in North Wales.

One stop clinic 27th Jan,took needle biopsies and core biopsy, needle ones results inconclusive told after an hour.
Core biopsy result 48hours later, only told grade two cancer.

Jump to surgery 23rd Feb,results 10 days later,er and pr +, HER2 -

The HER2 result is taken from the core biopsy sample so had all my results 10 days after surgery, hopefully won’t need chemo just waiting to hear re rads. Certainly haven’t been left hanging around so far for anything, the speed of it all makes my head spin, but rather that than the dreadul wait experinced by some.

I had to wait 12 weeks for Her2 result but got all the rest one week post surgery.I was told it was because they send all the samples from Shrewsbury to Birmingham and often have long delays. They said it didnt matter for me as I had to have chemo anyway and herceptin wouldnt start till after chemo had finished. In the event it was negative like the er/pr results.
